The corruption, blackmail, child trafficking game is very old. At least as old as the 70's. All of that is in this movie plot. Gator McClusky is forced to cooperate with Feds to take down a corrupt politician. He is reluctant until he witnesses the level of corruption (hint: child trafficking). Yeah, Gator isn't a saint, but in the end he does the right thing.

There's a reason why in so many films dating back to the earliest films made, criminal/political corruption invariably will involved sex/child trafficking and blackmail. It's an OLD game. Hollywood has known for a long time.
