Tried to explain this to the guy in charge of hiring for local sheriff's dept the other day, but didn't have the words.
Last two interactions with law enforcement:
2006ish: Fresh rain on desert highway, got a little sideways pulling out because oil floating up. Cop with bad attitude backed off when he realized I was recording him.
2017ish: Just moved into house and didn't realize next door neighbor was legitimate schizo. When cops were fixing to leave from next door, anon went out and asked if anything to be concerned about. Cops freaked out and demanded ID from oldfag anon who came out of woods with flashlight 25 yards from place they had lit up for half hour.
Some cops over-react and need to be held accountable.
