There's also Kahn Academy for more fundamental topics. Which is free.
Fill in your own gaps and then feel the power of solid knowledge in your chosen area of expertise. Just don't try to know everything or you'll go crazy trying.
To really shrink your designs, you'll end up needing to wave-solder, which is a whole 'nuther level of complexity and equipment and investment. Note that in most cities you will be able to find a custom-circuits fabrication facility which can wave-solder your designs for you.
