HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — Sheriff Chad Chronister, alongside Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody, revealed the 16 men arrested as a result of an online chat operation.
From July 28 to July 30, 2020, Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office detectives went undercover during “Operation Small Talk” to pose as minors in hopes of catching sexual predators in the act. They created fake personas to speak with subjects online and on various social media platforms.
“The conversations, text messages and photos from these predators are so graphic, I can’t even begin to describe them, other than to say they are repulsive,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister.
Those arrested include a registered sex offender, Michael Daughtry, and Matthew Jones, who was charged with 51 counts of Possession of Child Pornography. The list also includes a member of the U.S. Army Reserve, Melvin Rosa Viera, and former Manatee County Sheriff’s Office sergeant, Stephen Utter.

After months of meat prices rising amid the pandemic, they are finally starting to fall again, CNN reported.
Pandemic panic shopping depleted grocery stores, causing supply chains to struggle to keep up with increased demand. Now meat prices are starting to stabilize again after soaring in May and June.
From June to July, veal and beef prices dropped by 8.2% and steaks fell 8.7%. Pork decreased by 3.2% and ham and pork chops saw decreases around 5.7%. Chicken fell by 2.6%. However, hot dogs were the only meat product to see prices increase by 2.4%, maybe due to the Fourth of July weekend.
In July, food prices as a whole decreased by a seasonally adjusted 0.4%, making it the first decrease since April of last year, CNN reported. Food for the home prices fell 1.1% in July after an increase of 0.7% in June.
Though this is a move back in the right direction, CNN reports the meat sector is not completely back to normal. Some Tyson plants are operating at decreased production levels. Tyson is one of the world’s largest meat processors.
Other groceries like eggs saw price decreases in July as well — falling 4%. Potatoes fell 3.1% and peanut butter went down by 2.4%.
Soup, however, went up 1.2% and margarine got 2.2% more expensive. Lettuce prices rose by 1.6% as well.
