probably the reason that the Pantheon still stands is that they builders noticed that they didn't do enough for it's base. The builder realized that the base was sliding.

In Bascilicata there is a mountain tram.
you get harnassed into a tether and then they 'release' you and you basically fly out over a vally, that's way way way down below everything.
Why not use a system like that in a more urban place? why not have trams that move above the major travelled lanes?
