Colorado applies for money to pay $300 weekly federal unemployment subsidy

It will take state at least 4 weeks to start cutting checks if approved, but supplement will be backdated to Aug. 1

Colorado will be able to tap into federal money to provide $300 in weekly extra unemployment support to people impacted by COVID-19 without having to provide a match beyond the unemployment payments it is already sending out, according to information this week from federal officials.

Gov. Jared Polis’ administration filed an application Friday with the Federal Emergency Management Agency so that Colorado can provide people relying on unemployment with that extra money, a spokesman said.
