British govt removes 1.3 MILLION Covid-19 tests from official England figures due to alleged ‘double counting’

The British government has once again revised down figures relating to the coronavirus crisis, this time removing some 1.3m coronavirus tests from official data citing apparent “double-counting.”

In a coronavirus update issued on Wednesday, the UK government not only lowered the "tests made available" figure but discontinued the metric altogether, adding further confusion to an already questionable testing system. It marks the latest in a long line of high profile and embarrassing gaffes throughout the country’s coronavirus response.

“An adjustment of -1,308,071 has been made to the historic data for the ‘tests made available’ metric," the report reads, highlighting instances of "double-counting" of test kits issued between May 14 and August 12.

The problem was first acknowledged on July 6 but the incorrect data was only removed on August 12 and comes in parallel to recent downward revisions of Covid-19 death tolls recorded in England and Wales.

The 1.3 million figure covers in-person tests conducted outside of hospitals through commercial companies, including but not limited to swab tests performed in care homes and self-administered home test kits sent via mail.

Shadow Health Minister Justin Madders described the UK’s testing data as "shambolic," adding that Wednesday's move was "the latest in a long line of chaotic failings by the government on testing."

Pedophile Cop Arrested for Running Child Porn Network While Patrolling the Streets

Elmore, OH — Residents of Elmore, Ohio likely felt secure when they saw the police vehicle belonging to Elmore police officer Samuel Kurp drive through their neighborhoods. They likely felt “protected” and “safe” as Kurp crept down their streets. However, they won’t feel so protected and safe anymore now that this alleged pedophile cop was arrested for distributing child pornography whilst on the job.

According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, who headed up the arrest, on August 4, 2020, a referral was forwarded by the Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force to the Oregon Police Department who then forwarded the cyber tip to the FBI’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force.

The cyber tip indicated an individual had been utilizing a social media messenger app to upload and/or send to another user or group of users 26 videos or image files of child sexual abuse material, the FBI said.

Investigators determined the IP addresses being used to send and receive the child sexual abuse material, also known as child pornography, belonged to officer Kurp, who lives in Oregon, Ohio. When the FBI looked into Kurp, they discovered he was a police officer.

Two federal search warrants were executed on Tuesday, August 11, 2020, and officials arrested the alleged pedophile shortly after. When the FBI reached out to Kurp’s department, they determined that the images and videos distributed by Kurp were sent when the officer was on patrol.

On Tuesday, Kurp was taken into custody today by members of the FBI’s Toledo Resident Agency’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force without incident.

According to a statement from the Elmore Police Department, after he was arrested, Kurp resigned his position.

‘British FBI’ Makes 16 New Grooming Gang Arrests in Rotherham and Leeds

Britain’s National Crime Agency (NCA) has made sixteen new grooming gang arrests in Rotherham and Leeds as part of an investigation into historic sex crimes.

The NCA, roughly equivalent to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in the United States, announced that ten people aged between 35 and 53 had been arrested in Rotherham “on suspicion of offences relating to the abuse of girls who would have been between aged between 11 and 16 at the time [of the abuse].”

This followed the arrest of five men in Rotherham and Leeds between July 28th and July 30th, with another suspect being detained last week — all as part of the Operation Stovewood investigation into grooming offences which took place between 1997 and 2013, launched in response to the Alex Jay inquiry into the mismanagement of such crimes by the authorities.

The NCA said that “around 150 people have now been arrested as part of Operation Stovewood” and that “Jail terms of almost 250 years have been handed down to the 20 people convicted so far” — although this is somewhat misleading, given 250 years averages just 12.5 years across 20 people, and criminals in Britain are in any case typically released early on licence automatically at the halfway point or, more rarely, the tw0-thirds point in their sentences.

US, Poland sign deal on hosting 1,000 extra American troops in Eastern Europe

Warsaw and Washington have signed a new security pact, under which Poland will host some 1,000 additional US troops as well as the forward command of the V Corps Headquarters, which was reactivated in February.

The deal was signed by visiting US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak. The ceremony was held in the presence of President Andrzej Duda at his residence in Warsaw.

Among other things, the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) increases the US military presence in Poland by about 1,000 troops from the previous level of 4,500 personnel.

Poland will also host American military support infrastructure, including forward elements of the US Army's V Corps headquarters, which the Polish foreign minister called"the most important US command center on NATO's eastern flank" before the document was signed. V Corps was reactivated earlier in February to boost the Pentagon's European operations.

The deal was signed two weeks after Washington ordered the withdrawal of some 12,000 troops from Germany, marking the largest relocation of US military assets in Europe in decades. Jacek Czaputowicz, the Polish foreign minister, insisted that the additional deployments in his country had nothing to do with the German pullout and "is a separate process that we have been implementing for a long time."

Miami boy, 17, is arrested for 'using social media to pimp out 14-year-old girl for sex and arranging up to five "dates" a day at $250 an hour'

A 17-year-old has been arrested on charges related to sex trafficking a 14-year-old runaway girl in Florida.

Javier Quintero, 17, of Miami, was arrested Wednesday - the day after the girl's relatives told police that they had seen pictures of her, allegedly being advertised for prostitution, on social media.

Although Quintero is being held at a juvenile detention center, he now faces adult charges of human trafficking of a person under 18, deriving support from proceeds of prostitution, possession of child pornography and renting space to be used for prostitution.

Additional charges against him include custodial interference, unlawful use of a communications device and contributing to the delinquency of a child, according to his arrest report, which was obtained by the Miami Herald.

'This situation is every parent’s worst nightmare,' Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle told CBS Miami. 'Children like this, our children, can be lost so easily. But I and our law enforcement partners are determined to keep that from happening.'

Police said relatives of the girl - who is not being named - told them late Tuesday about the social media pictures of her they saw. The cops were able to trace the images of the girl back to Miami's Runway Inn, where they found the girl that night.

Rundle said that the girl told police that she had run away from home several weeks prior due to a 'conflict in her household.'

Ramped-Up Counternarcotics Op Has Denied Drug Traffickers $2.5 Billion, Navy Says

Ordinarily, patrolling the waters near Central and South America for drug traffickers is a job largely left to the U.S. Coast Guard. But since April 1 of this year, the U.S. Navy has surged assets to the region to assist with the mission – and helped reel in more than $2.5 billion worth of contraband to date.

The operation has gotten presidential attention and is ongoing, with the Navy destroyer Pinckney publicizing a recent major bust this week. The Pinckney, homeported in San Diego, executed a seizure with an embarked Coast Guard law enforcement detachment July 24, seizing more than 120 kilograms, or 265 pounds, of suspected cocaine from a single ship. In total, the haul was worth some $4.5 million.

"While on routine patrol, approximately 200 nautical miles southwest of Jamaica, a helicopter assigned to the 'Wolf Pack' of Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 75 located the vessel and Pinckney soon arrived on scene," Navy officials said in a release. "After coordination with the Government of Colombia and Colombian Navy, the vessel was searched and six suspected drug smugglers detained. The mariners are now in Government of Colombia custody."

The crew of the Pinckney also secured medical evacuation for one detainee for whom treatment was deemed necessary for survival.

Heads of U.S. Southern Command have long expressed their wish for more U.S. Navy assets in the region to stop a drug trade tied to tens of thousands of U.S. deaths every year. Under the enhanced counternarcotics mission, those ships and aircraft are in place, at least for now.

Top officials say the $90 billion drug trade, which thrives in unstable regions, has taken advantage of the added instability of the global COVID-19 pandemic.

"Since the end of March, we have employed, in the U.S. Southern Command Area of Responsibility, 75% more surveillance aircraft and 65% more ships than normal for drug interdiction," Defense Secretary Mark Esper said in a July 10 news conference from Doral, Florida. "These additional assets include four Navy destroyers, five Coast Guard cutters, and eight aircraft. Currently, nearly a dozen Navy and Coast Guard ships and over 15 aircraft from across the interagency are supporting our efforts, in addition to security forces deployed to the region."

Experts Expect US Arms Sales to UAE to Soar After Israel Deal

With US officials hyping the historic Israel-UAE peace deal, experts say it could easily lead to a surge in US arms sales to the UAE, as it will open up more willingness to sign off on such deals.

Which isn’t to say that the US doesn’t already sell a substantial amount of arms to the UAE as it is. Congress questions such moves, however, and has even tried to block them on some occasions over Yemen war crimes.

And while that’s never been an obstacle for the administration, Congress may find the environment has changed, especially if Israel is suddenly inclined to go to bat for them in lobbying efforts, something Trump will likely emphasize.

The most controversial arms sales are usually the priciest, and the UAE is often in line to buy the newest, most expensive US arms. Being buddy buddy with Israel has been shown by nations like Egypt to work in the past, and may well help with deals here.

The Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit routinely ranks at the top of the list of the best think tanks in the world; Brookings scholars produce a steady flow of reports, symposiums, and news releases that sway the conversation on any number of issues ranging from domestic and economic policy to foreign affairs.

Brookings is home to lots of Beltway power players: Ben Bernanke and Janet Yellen, former chairmen of the Federal Reserve, are Brookings fellows. Top officials from both Republican and Democrat presidential administrations lend political heft to the organization.

The partnership raises questions about potential Chinese espionage activities at the think tank, which employs numerous former government officials and nearly two dozen current foreign policy advisers to Joe Biden’s presidential campaign.

It is really frightening that one of two major political parties in the US is tied so closely with the Brookings Institute. It is even more frightening that foreign enemies of the United States are connected to this entity as well.

Protesters rallied Saturday evening at a number of sites across Israel as part of ongoing demonstrations against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over his indictment on graft charges and his handling of the coronavirus pandemic.

The main protest was held outside the Prime Minister’s Residence in Jerusalem, which has been the center of the demonstrations against the premier. Hebrew media reports put turnout at a few thousand, far less than in recent weeks.

It was the eighth consecutive week that a large anti-Netanyahu protest was held there.

Bill Gates says hydroxychloroquine has 'severe side effects,' but little evidence they're common

Symptoms largely appear to be gastrointestinal, with small number of deaths from cardiac complications.

Bill Gates this week added more flame to the fire in the ongoing debate over the usage of hydroxychloroquine to treat COVID-19, claiming that using the drug to treat the coronavirus carries with it the risk of "severe side effects" and arguing that medical officials should instead pursue the numerous "good therapeutic drugs" currently in development.

Yet there is at present little evidence that "severe side effects" are common in COVID-19 patients who take hydroxychloroquine, with the majority of reported adverse events being relatively mild and only a small fraction of reported effects so far being dangerous and/or fatal.

The drug, which has been used for years to treat malaria and other conditions like lupus, has been at the center of a medical and political firestorm since March when President Trump touted the medicine as a possible effective treatment for coronavirus. Numerous medical officials have claimed that it offers no benefit to COVID-19 patients, while others have insisted that it is highly effective when used in certain circumstances, specifically on high-risk patients early in the course of the disease.

Asked by Bloomberg magazine about the controversy on Thursday, Gates—who has been at the forefront of funding and advocacy efforts to find both a cure and a vaccine for COVID-19—said that though we live "in age of science … sometimes it doesn’t feel that way."

"In the test tube, hydroxychloroquine looked good," he said. "On the other hand, there are lots of good therapeutic drugs coming that are proven to work without the severe side effects."

Studies do not show major prevalence of severe side effects

Numerous studies across the world over the past several months have produced mixed results on the efficacy of hydroxychloroquine in treating COVID-19, with some showing marked benefits and others indicating that it does not help patients recover from the disease.

Yet regardless of study outcomes, severe adverse health events associated with the drug appear to be comparatively rare.

Facebook has been busily trying to respond to criticisms it allows baseless conspiracy theories to flourish on its pages, but no matter how quickly it blocks posts and pages, a recent analysis indicates followers of fringe theories like QAnon are growing.

President Trump has retweeted at least 200 missives supporting QAnon, a Media Matters analysis found.

“Q” is a mysterious figure, purportedly a government official, who posits that Trump is working to dismantle a group of Washington elites engaged in pedophilia and sex trafficking. Its theories have grown to include antivaccine, anti-Semitic and anti-immigrant conspiracies.

Trump’s family members and his personal attorney Rudy Giuliani also are fans, as well as some former administration officials.

Marjorie Taylor Greene, who won the Republican nomination this week in Georgia’s 14th Congressional District, was poised to give QAnon a wider stage in Congress since she faces no opposition in the Nov. 3 election.

Psychiatrist and researcher Joseph Pierre of the UCLA Geffen School of Medicine said in times of crisis people turn to conspiracy theorists like QAnon.

“When we feel insecure, we often look for information that provides an explanation for chaotic events,” Pierre told Discover magazine.

“Where people are feeling powerless, anxious and threatened, conspiracy theories can offer some relief,” Northumbria University social psychologist Daniel Jolley told Discover.

The pandemic only amplified the problem as some world leaders downplayed the severity of the problem while the death toll soared, standing at nearly 760,400 worldwide Friday, 167,300 in the U.S., Johns Hopkins tracking data showed.

A report from Forbes warned that QAnon also threatens businesses, saying the hashtag #QAnon added to any post guarantees widespread dissemination, enabling disinformation and misinformation to spread unabated, undermining every aspect of society.

United Nations turn on U.S.: Vote against extending Iran arms embargo

The U.N. Security Council rejected on Friday a United States resolution to extend a thirteen-years-old arms embargo on Iran due to expire in October.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that the U.N. Security Council “failed today to uphold its fundamental mission set.”

“It rejected a reasonable resolution to extend the 13-year old arms embargo on Iran and paved the way for the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism to buy and sell conventional weapons without specific U.N. restrictions in place for the first time in over a decade,” he said. “The Security Council’s failure to act decisively in defense of international peace and security is inexcusable.”

U.S. officials warned that the expiration of the embargo would allow Iran to buy fighter jets, attack choppers, tanks, submarines and missiles with a range of up to 300 km.

42 Charged With Felonies Related to Chicago Looting: Prosecutor

The prosecutor who oversees Chicago said her office filed 42 charges related to the looting that took place in the city overnight Sunday.

Cook County State’s Attorney Kimberly Foxx said she and other prosecutors at her office approved 42 of the 43 felony charges sought by the Chicago Police Department related to the rioting.

Thirty of the charges are linked to burglary or looting. Six are related to gun possession. Five are for aggravated battery of resisting a police officer. One is for attempted murder.

The only charge that was rejected was a burglary/looting case. Chicago police detectives concurred with the rejection, Foxx said. The Chicago Police Department (CPD) didn’t respond to a request for comment.

“The State’s Attorney Office is ready and available to review cases brought to us by law enforcement and to charge those cases when appropriate,” Foxx said in a statement. “I am committed to keeping our communities safe and continuing to collaborate with our law enforcement partners to demand accountability and seek justice for the people of Cook County.”

Kendra Horn, Awash in Big Cash From Wall Street Execs, Gets Six-Figure Boost From End Citizens United

The freshman Dem advocated for reducing big money in politics that she now benefits from

The premier left-wing group that works to reduce the influence of money and special interests in politics just gave a six-figure boost to Rep. Kendra Horn (D., Okla.), who once advocated against money in politics but now benefits from large checks from Wall Street executives.

The End Citizens United PAC poured $400,000 into an advertising blitz backing Horn, filings submitted to the Federal Election Commission on Thursday show. The media buy is the group's first 2020 foray into Oklahoma's Fifth Congressional District race, which is slated to become one of the most competitive in the country this November.

End Citizens United first endorsed Horn in 2018, when she pushed for sweeping campaign finance and ethics reform. The ad buy shows the group is still supporting her campaign, even though she's now benefiting from donations she vowed to combat.

Wealthy individuals who represent big monied interests are now giving large sums to Horn's reelection efforts. The House Victory Project, for example, a joint fundraising committee created and primarily funded by Wall Street executives to inject large sums into key House races, transferred $255,000 to Horn's campaign this cycle.

Horn did not receive cash from the House Victory Project in 2018. The transfer is the largest the campaign has received this cycle. It is not, however, the only sizable transfer from a committee fueled by donors that she once shunned.

The freshman Democrat also received $38,000 from the Hold the House Victory Fund, a joint fundraiser between the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and 30 Democratic candidates. It is heavily bankrolled by deep-pocketed liberal donors who each have given up to $350,000 for its 2020 efforts.

Joe Biden Launches Swing State Ad Calling for Nationwide Mask Mandate ‘Starting Immediately’

The Biden campaign is deploying coronavirus-focused ads — one of which calls for a nationwide mask mandate “starting immediately” — across several crucial swing states as the general election draws nearer.

One of the ads, titled “Ready to Lead,” calls for a national mask mandate “starting immediately” and will run across six key battleground states — Florida, North Carolina, Wisconsin, Michigan, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania.

“Joe Biden knows we need to listen to medical experts and take action now,” the voiceover states. “That starts by expanding testing, calling for mask mandates nationwide starting immediately, and producing more protective gear here at home”:

On Thursday, the former vice president formally called for a nationwide mask mandate, stating that Americans should wear masks outdoors for at least three months

“Every single American should be wearing a mask when they are outside for the next three months at a minimum,” Biden said during a virtual briefing.

Notably, a recent Gallup poll indicated that a majority of Americans are not currently wearing face coverings outdoors.

Only 47 percent said they “always” or “usually” wear a mask in outdoor settings when they cannot socially distance, compared to 86 percent who indicated that they wear masks in indoor settings in the same scenario.

Women are more likely than men to wear masks in an outdoor setting, the survey found, 54 percent to 39 percent. Democrats are also more likely to wear face coverings in an outdoor setting, with a majority, 64 percent, indicating that they “always” or “usually” do so. Only 43 percent of independents said the same, followed by 23 percent of Republicans.

Trump, in turn, criticized Biden’s unilateral approach, urging him to “stop playing politics with the virus.”

“Sleepy Joe rejects the scientific approach in favor of locking all Americans in their basements for months on end,” Trump said.

“If the president has the unilateral power to order every single citizen to cover their face in nearly all instances, what other powers does he have?” Trump continued, wondering how such an order would be enforced.

“He does not identify what authority or how federal law enforcement could enforce it,” the president said, defending federalism. “Why we would step on governors of our country?”

The former Biden rival — known on the campaign trail for her lofty progressive proposals to implement an “Ultra-Millionaire Tax” and cancel student debt on the first day of her presidency — said she has a “big list” of agenda items for the Biden administration to tackle should Joe Biden (D) defeat President Trump in November:

“Finally, we can demand that our Congress make the real changes statutorily that we need to make. We need to get everybody on a path to citizenship,” she explained. “These are changes we need to make.”

“Here’s the good news, though. It’s a big list. It’s a big list,” she continued, suggesting that demands include action the White House can take unilaterally.

“It’s a list about the things the president will be able to do by himself and with help from Kamala and all of his administration,” she said. “It’s a list of the things Congress needs to do. It’s also a list of the things the agencies themselves need to do.”

Warren added that she has a list for several agencies, including the Department of Education and EPA:

Have I got a list for the Department of Education, oh! And a list for the Treasury Department and a list for the EPA. We got a lot of people who want to do that work. So I think of this as, you ask me what are we going to start doing on January 21, and my answer is, it’s actually all the pieces we start putting in place, at the latest, starting on November 4, the day after the win that people are lined up, and they are ready to go.

Warren continues to serve as a fundraising machine for the Biden team, raising $6 million for the campaign after a single June fundraiser.

Many progressives believe she will serve as an influential progressive figure if Biden lands the presidency.

“Warren will play a big role in laying out an economic agenda with a focus on the working class and middle class,” Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA), former co-chair of Sen. Bernie Sanders’ (I-VT) campaign, stated.

“Whether from the senator or from the administration, she has the brilliance to help shape policy,” Khanna added.

Portland State University Officers to Be Disarmed in Effort to ‘Eliminate Systematic Racism’

Campus safety officers at Portland State University will be disarmed beginning November 1, 2020, as part of a larger effort to “eliminate systemic racism.”

Officer.com reports that the decision to disarm campus officers came as Portland approaches “80 days of continuous protests against police violence and systemic racism.” And a number of PSU students reportedly “lobbied” to have campus officers disarmed.

As a result, PSU president Stephen Percy made clear that the officers will no longer carry guns.

Percy said, “The calls for change that we are hearing at PSU are ringing out across our nation. We must find a new way to protect the safety of our community, one that eliminates systemic racism and promotes the dignity of all who come to our urban campus.”

PSU’s campus safety chief Willie Halliburton concurred with Percy, saying that he hopes the decision to disarm “will bring healing to this campus.”

Halliburton described disarming officers as “an historic event in the world of police work,” and said he anticipates that “it is going to have its challenges.”

He said his officers will carry only “non-lethal tasers” and that Portland Police Bureau will rush to campus if an armed response to an unforeseen event is needed.

KGW reports that the decision to disarm “reverses an October 2019 decision to keep armed officers on campus.”

The calls to disarm officers came after 45-year-old Jason Washington was shot and killed on campus in 2018. According to KGW, Washington had a concealed carry permit but allegedly dropped his gun while trying to break up an on-campus fight. When officers saw him reach down to pick up the gun they shot him, fatally wounding him.

A Multnomah County grand jury found the officers justified in their use of force, noting their actions were in defense of self and others. But the PSU Student Union allegedly claimed Washington died as a result of racial profiling.

PSU released a statement describing the decision to disarm officers as “an important first step of a new process to Reimagine Campus Safety.”
