Follow the money, Unions

Over the next several months, DC-based organizers continued together in the #ShutDownDC space to organize a continuing series of actions, trainings, and educational events. From Earth Day to May Day 2020 #ShutDownDC partners organized a series of actions each day confronting the causes and highlighting the consequences of the climate and public health crises. As the 2020 election approaches we are making plans to rise up to confront the Trump administration's attacks on democracy.

Every day the 600,000 members of the American Postal Workers Union (APWU), the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC), the National Rural Letter Carriers’ Association (NRLCA), and the National Postal Mail Handlers Union (NPMHU) quickly and efficiently deliver more than 470 million pieces of mail. While the increase in mail-in balloting will lead to an increase in mail volume, the US Postal Service is uniquely equipped to ensure that the millions of ballots that are cast remotely are delivered on time.
We need to roll back these cuts and invest in a Postal Service that can help us Deliver Democracy. Here are our demands:
The immediate resignation of Republican fundraiser Louis DeJoy from his current position as Postmaster General,
Roll back DeJoy’s hastily deployed “operational pivot” to ensure that that USPS is able to operate reliably through the election,
Provide emergency pandemic relief to the Postal Service to cover the costs of reduced revenues, PPE, hazard pay, etc. through the HEROEs Act,
Repeal the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act, which has placed unreasonable and unnecessary financial burdens on the Postal Service for more than a decade.
