Producer Jen Baskerville registers as ‘foreign agent’ to represent Chinese Communist Party
Former CNN producer Jennifer Baskerville registered as a “Foreign Agent” to provide the Chinese Communist Party’s U.S. Embassy with “public relations and media outreach. Baskerville, who worked as a producer out of CNN’s D.C. headquarters from 1996 to 2004, leveraged those credentials to join lobbying and consulting firm Qorvis as a Managing Director. In 2004, Baskerville had to file with the Department of Justice’s Foreign Agent Registration Act (FARA) after she inked a deal representing the Chinese Communist Party’s U.S. Embassy. Specifically, she assisted the brutal and repressive regime with “public relations and media outreach including distribution of press releases.” This collaboration is concerning in light of Party leader Xi Jinping vowing “wherever the readers are, wherever the viewers are, that is where propaganda reports must extend their tentacles.”
According to her Qorvis bio, Baskerville “leverages her years of experience working in a newsroom to help her clients tell their stories in a way that gets results” and “has secured extensive media coverage for her clients” on outlets including CNN and establishment counterparts The New York Times, The Washington Post, and PBS. She also lists herself as “teaching her clients how to deliver information in a straightforward, impactful way that helps ensure that their message is understood by all audiences.” In other words, Baskerville used her CNN-garnered experience – which earned her an Emmy award for her work on the September 11th terror attacks – to amplify the reach and refine the reputation of the Chinese Communist Party. This unearthed connection is just the latest example of the axis between CNN and the Chinese Communist Party. The establishment media organization has seen former talent go on to work for China Global Television Network, a state-run media outlet and purveyor of party propaganda. The left-wing outlet has also collaborated with Tsinghua University’s Journalism School, an avowedly “Marxist” and Chinese Communist Party funded venture.
