The purpose of encoding information is to make a consistent or repeatable message or verifiable product to indicate a correct key.

There are two ways to secure an encoded message, to simply make a difficult to produce/guess key … Or to make it next to impossible to recognize what is or is not encoded information using some factor the intended recipient knows but is not included in the data set or discoverable through mathematical process. IE - a cypher utilizing components that aren't mathematical. Symbolism, for example.
