Portland protesters hurl rocks at police on 80th night of BLM demonstrations, riot declared & 2 officers hospitalized

The 80th night of Black Lives Matter protests in Portland turned violent, with police declaring yet another riot as demonstrators threw rocks and projectiles at officers and their vehicles. Police said two cops were hospitalized.

More than 200 people showed up to an anti-police brutality protest in East Portland on Saturday night. What began as peaceful demonstration later turned violent as protesters began moving into residential areas, throwing rocks and projectiles at police property and officers.

Portland Police eventually declared the demonstration a riot early on Sunday, arresting several people as they tried to clear the area. Footage captured by RT's Ruptly video agency showed intense clashes, as police deployed smoke grenades against protesters who refused to comply with warnings to leave the area.

According to a police statement, two officers were hospitalized following Saturday night’s incidents, after both the cops were hit with a 10-pound rock. Police say the rock was thrown by an individual with clothing bearing the word “press.”

During the clashes, some activists reportedly painted graffiti on the Penumbra Kelly Building, which is used by law enforcement. Police said another protester spray-painted over a security camera at the building.

Antifa protesters also tried blocking a street at one point by holding makeshift shields in a line, but the amateur barricade was almost immediately torn apart by police.

While the targeting of police buildings and federal property has been a staple of the Portland protests since they began almost three months ago following the death of George Floyd, more recently demonstrators have been marching in residential neighborhoods and entering private property, requiring more of a police presence to disperse them.

A protest in the city earlier on Saturday saw pro-police demonstrators at the Multnomah County Justice Center clashing with counter-protesters, as paint balls and pepper spray were reportedly exchanged between the two sides. Shots were reportedly heard being fired at one point, but no injuries were declared. Police are currently investigating that incident.

Federal officers have begun leaving the city of Portland – though some remain to protect federal property – with the responsibility to keep protests peaceful now falling on city and state officials. President Donald Trump has warned on multiple occasions that if city officials cannot control the ongoing protests, he will deploy federal officers once more.

Belarus Kicks Off Large-Scale Military Drills Near Poland, Lithuania. Lukashenko Is Losing Propaganda War To Western-backed Opposition

On August 16, the Belarusian Armed Forces announced large-scale military drills near the country’s nuclear plant and in the Grodno region bordering Poland and Lithuania. The drills will take place on August 17-20 and involve rocket and artillery units, air-defense forces and airborne troops. Meanwhile, mechanized and battle tank brigades also hold live-fire exercises. The military added that forces will train to strengthen the country’s western border as part of the drills.

The military exercises served as a visual and powerful confirmation to earlier remarks by the country’s President Alexander Lukashenko about his readiness to defend Belarus from the ‘foreign interference’. Nonetheless, if earlier Lukashenko was widely speculating about unfriendly ‘Russian actions’ in an attempt to gain support of the media-active pro-Western opposition, after the presidential election his position shifted towards the ‘friendship’ with Russia and the repelling of ‘Western interference’. Indeed the main opposition propaganda and coordination center is managed from Poland, but this shift is rather a result of the complicated situation in which Lukashenko found itself rather than the admission of these apparent facts.

Meanwhile, the government also staged a large rally in center of Minsk in support of the acting president. President Lukashenko participated in the pro-government rally claiming that Belarus will cease to exist as a country if the destabilization efforts achieve success. He also warned about NATO troops deployed at Belarus’ border.

“I am kneeling for you, for the first time in my life. You have deserved it!” he said.

“Despite all the difficulties, all its flaws, we’ve built a beautiful country together. Who did you decide to surrender her to? If somebody wants to surrender the country, even when I am dead, I will not allow it.”

President admitted that during a press conference in April that “two very smart people” came into his office and urged him to lock down the economy or 2.2 million Americans would die from the China virus.

But President Trump did not say who those “two very smart people” were.

President Trump: The big projection being that 2.2 million people would die if we did nothing. That was another decision we made, close it up. That was a big decision that we made. Two very smart people walked into my office and said listen these are your alternatives. And that was a projection of 1.5 to 2.2 million people would die if we didn’t close it up. That’s a lot of people.

Dr. Fauci later admitted he persuaded the president to shut down and kill off the US economy.

Peter Navarro: Dems Want USPS to Be ‘Ballot-Harvesting Service’

Sunday on Fox News Channel’s “Fox & Friends Weekend,” White House trade and manufacturing adviser Peter Navarro accused Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and House Minority Leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) of trying to turn the U.S. Postal Service into a “ballot harvesting service.”

Navarro said, “Let’s think about it. First, the irony of what’s getting Chuck and Nancy back to Washington; it’s not concern about the working men and women of America, who really need our help right now. They want to come back so they can rename the post office the United States ballot harvesting service. So it’s unfortunate we get these – in the middle of the election – we get all these new cycle things going on that they seize upon.”

On a deal for a new coronavirus relief package, Navarro said, “You can’t have either side cross the other’s red lines. What are the red lines here? The red lines are bailing out massive blue states that basically did not do a good job in terms of taking care of the public. A lot of those are sanctuary cities and states which basically got in to the hole they’re in by giving a bunch of money away to illegal aliens. So that’s clearly a red line there.”

He added, “Clearly, this president does not want to support ballot harvesting. Nancy and Chuck want a big amount for that. You know, there’s other things. You can’t make the Republicans pay for things like Planned Parenthood, and certainly, the Democrats have their red lines.”

Obama, Clinton Allies on Wall Street Rally Behind Kamala Harris

Executives on Wall Street linked to Hillary Clinton and former President Barack Obama are rallying behind Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) as Democrat nominee Joe Biden’s vice presidential pick.

Wells Fargo Vice Chairman for Public Affairs Bill Daley, who served as Obama’s chief of staff from 2011 to 2012, called a Harris a “reasonable, rational person who has worked in the system,” in an interview with the Wall Street Journal.

“Is she a progressive? Yes. Is she someone who wants to burn the building down? No. I think she wants to strengthen the building,” Daley said.

Likewise, Charles Myers and Lewis Lukens of the financial firm Signum Global Advisors gave a resounding endorsement of Harris in a memo titled “Biden’s pick of Harris as VP reinforces centrist ticket.”

Myers and Lukens wrote that Harris is an “energetic and charismatic candidate and campaigner” with “thirty years of public service and almost twenty years of campaign experience.”

Myers formerly advised Clinton on the 2016 campaign trail. Lukens worked as a diplomat for the Obama administration and served in the State Department while Clinton was Secretary of State.

“Harris, who generally could be called a centrist, will not push Biden to the left or the right on major policy issues,” they wrote. “She will be supportive of Biden and the Democratic Party’s policy platform.”

The show of support from Democrat establishment allies on Wall Street for Harris comes as financial executives similarly voiced their approval in interviews with the Journal, CNBC, and Bloomberg, as Breitbart News reported.

A handful of Wall Street executives called Harris a “normal Democrat” and a “great choice” while another said, “What’s not to like?”

“She’s terrific,” Kynikos Associates founder Jim Chanos told Bloomberg. “She’s got force of personality in a good way. She takes over a room. She certainly has a charisma and a presence which will be an asset on the campaign.”

In the 2019 Democrat presidential primary, Harris won over a number of Wall Street donors. In Iowa, notably, Harris held a fundraiser backed by Goldman Sachs Group, Inc — one of the largest multinational banks in the world.

While criticizing “the people who have the most” in Democrat primary debates, Harris raked in thousands in campaign cash from financial executives from firms such as the Blackstone Group, Morgan Stanley, Bank of America, Goldman Sachs, and Wells Fargo.
