Democrats Schedule ‘Urgent Hearing’ on ‘Postal Service Sabotage’

Democrats are demanding that Postmaster General Louis DeJoy testify at a hearing about mail-in voting and the November election on August 24.

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and fellow Democrats issued a press release Sunday:

The hearing will examine the sweeping operational and organizational changes at the Postal Service that experts warn could degrade delivery standards, slow the mail and potentially impair the rights of eligible Americans to cast their votes through the mail in the upcoming November elections. The Postmaster General and top Postal Service leadership must answer to the Congress and the American people as to why they are pushing these dangerous new policies that threaten to silence the voices of millions, just months before the election.

“The President has explicitly stated his intention to manipulate the Postal Service to deny eligible voters access to the ballot in pursuit of his own re-election,” the release said.

The announcement also accused DeJoy of acting as an “accomplice in the President’s campaign to cheat in the election, as he launches sweeping new operational changes that degrade delivery standards and delay the mail.”

However, White House trade and manufacturing adviser Peter Navarro alleged Sunday that Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) were trying to turn the postal service into a “ballot harvesting service.”

He continued:

Let’s think about it. First, the irony of what’s getting Chuck and Nancy back to Washington; it’s not concern about the working men and women of America, who really need our help right now. They want to come back so they can rename the post office the United States ballot harvesting service. So it’s unfortunate we get these – in the middle of the election – we get all these new cycle things going on that they seize upon.

During a recent interview with Fox News’s Sean Hannity, President Trump said he believed Democrats were willing to play a “much dirtier game” than Republicans, Breitbart News reported.

“The Republicans, fortunately, much better policy, but they ought to get tougher. The Republicans have to get tougher. And this whole thing with this mail-in ballot, that’s a rigged election waiting to happen,” he concluded.

Democrat Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz Accused of Assaulting Primary Opponent’s 16-Year-Old Volunteer During Early Voting

Democrat Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL) was accused of assaulting a minor during early voting this weekend.

Wasserman Schultz’s primary opponent, Jen Perelman tweeted: “Debbie physically shoved one of my volunteers handing out palm cards and then verbally accosted her for calling out her record on the environment. This will not be tolerated.”

“I’m only going to say this once: If you want to put your hands on anyone, try it with me. Don’t you EVER touch my volunteer,” attorney Perelman tweeted putting Wasserman Schultz on notice.

The alleged victim, 16-year-old Martina Velazquez, described the assault in a Tik Tok video.

“When I was handing out palm cards to voters and explaining how Debbie was not endorsed by any climate activists other than the Sierra Club….she ended up shoving me more than once and calling me a liar to my face,” said Velasquez.

California Set To Pass The Nation's First Wealth Tax Targeting The Ultra Rich

It was about about nine years ago when consulting company BCG first suggested that in a time of out of control spending and soaring debt loads, the only fiscally sustainable "solution" was to implement a wealth tax (see "There May Be Only Painful Ways Out Of The Crisis").

While the idea was well ahead of its time in 2011, and was quickly shut down in the court of public opinion, several years later none other than the IMF resurrected the idea of a wealth tax, which has only gained momentum in recent months, and despite widespread grassroots pushback, the concept of a "wealth tax" has moved front and center and most recently the chairman of Capital Economics, Roger Bootle, said that the world’s wealthiest could be subjected to higher tax rates as governments scramble to fund spending and repair their economies amid the coronavirus crisis.

Fast forward to today when the ultra-liberal state of California is now ready to take this "socialist" idea from concept to the implementation phase, with the SF Chronicle reporting that a group of CA state lawmakers on Thursday proposed a first-in-the-nation state wealth tax that would hit about 30,400 California residents and raise an estimated $7.5 billion for the general fund.

The proposed tax rate would be 0.4% of net worth (most likely ended up far higher), excluding directly held real estate, that exceeds $30 million for single and joint filers and $15 million for married filing separately.

Oakland Democrat Rob Bonta, who is the lead author of the wealth tax proposal AB2008, justified the wealth expropriation by saying that California is facing a big budget deficit because of the health and economic crisis brought on by the coronavirus, and "we can’t simply rely on austerity measures," to close it. It wasn't immediately clear why austerity doesn't work considering that California has never actually tried it, but in any case the Democrat's proposal was clear: "We must consider revenue generation."

Israeli Tanks Attack Hamas Positions in Gaza Strip, IDF Says

On Sunday, the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) said in a statement that soldiers had repelled an attempted "terror attack" against Rachel’s Tomb in the city of Bethlehem, detecting "terrorists who tried to hurl a Molotov cocktail toward the Tomb area".

In the early hours of Monday morning, the IDF announced that Israeli tanks had conducted an attack against Hamas positions in the Gaza Strip.

The attack came, according to the IDF, in response to explosive balloons allegedly sent into Israeli territory and the instigation of riots along the Palestinian-Israeli border wall by "dozens of Palestinians in Gaza".

Israel has seen explosive balloon attacks several times during the week, the IDF claimed, alongside rockets fired from the Gaza Strip that were intercepted by the Iron Dome Aerial Defence System. Israel responded with airstrikes, reiterating that it holds Hamas accountable for all attacks coming from the area.

The Gaza Strip is controlled by Hamas, a Palestinian Sunni militant organization, that remains in a protracted conflict with Tel Aviv.

More Than Sixty 9-1-1 Calls Go Unanswered During Portland Riot

Saturday was the 80th consecutive night of riots in Portland with no sign that the urban terrorists have any intention of letting up.

I guess we’re supposed to call them “demonstrators,” but do any of them remember what they’re supposed to be protesting? Racial injustice? The white faces that make up a majority of the rioters are hardly effective representatives of the oppressed. The death of George Floyd? It would be interesting to ask 10 rioters if they know who George Floyd was. How many would keep throwing rocks at the cops and shrug their shoulders in ignorance?

This is an anti-police, anti-civic-order protest. And as long as anarchists and “anti-fascists” are allowed to congregate and attack police, they will continue.

The embattled police try to push back, but when they do, they’re accused of brutality. So their commanders increase the police presence hoping the number of cops alone can keep the peace. It’s a fool’s hope. Commanders are pulling police from all over the city, leading to a breakdown in emergency services.

Fox News:

Two officers went to the hospital. A photo shared by the police bureau showed a 9.5-pound rock that was thrown by a person posing as “press” as the officer “prepared to ride away on a truck.” Several arrests were made.

“At the time of this release over 60 calls for police service were holding around the city,” the Police Bureau said in a statement. “Some had been holding for the length of the events described here. Call types ranged from theft, vandalism, suspicious activity, hazards, hit and run, burglary, violation of restraining order, alarms, stolen cars, harassment and many others.”

The Portland Police Bureau gave a graphic description of the activities of the rioters.

Some of the crowd chants included, “kill a cop, save a life”, “What do we want? Justice! When do we want it? Now! If we don’t get it, burn it down!”

At about 11:17 p.m., officers reported members of the crowd were launching mortars at the police and cars well back in the Penumbra Kelly Building parking lot, followed by thrown objects. People began to trespass on the property. Portland Police gave public address announcements directing people to stay off the property, which was closed to the public. At about 11:35 p.m., people approached the front doors of the Penumbra Kelly Building, trespassing on the property. People in the crowd continually threw large river rocks at officers. Portland Police gave more announcements and force warnings. For the next twenty minutes people in the crowd increased their violent actions toward police officers who were standing behind cars fifty feet or more away from the crowd. Officers reported having rocks, frozen eggs, glass bottles, and frozen water bottles thrown at them. Officers reported people were shining green lasers at them, which is against the law in Oregon. Somebody spray painted over a security camera on the Penumbra Kelly Building.

But Portland City Commissioner Jo Ann Hardesty called out the police for their “brutality” in not protecting the constitutional rights of those throwing rocks and bottles at the cops.
