The Russian Foreign Ministry called Emmanuel Macron a “hypocrite” after he used a Sunday tweet to publicly call for the European Union to “continue to mobilize” on the side of anti-government protesters in Belarus.

The ministry’s spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, wrote on Facebook on Monday that the French president should call for support for those taking part in protests in the EU, not Belarus, which lies outside of Brussels’ orbit. The landlocked country is a full member of two alliances which serve as alternatives to the EU and NATO in Europe – the Eurasian Economic Union and the Collective Security Treaty Organization.

“When will he call on the European Union to be mobilized in support of hundreds of thousands of ‘Yellow Vests’ demonstrators who peacefully seek to ensure respect for their rights, freedoms and sovereignty?” she said. “When will the European Union stop waiting for calls from presidents of its member states and start to mobilize proactively in support of protests held on its own territory?”

Bitcoin Daily: China Expands Digital Cash Pilot; California Bill Defining Digital Assets Moves Forward

China’s Ministry of Commerce is moving forward with its plan for a digital currency, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ).

The plan will come with a large number of cities in which to test the currency, including Beijing and the provinces Tianjin and Hebei in the north, the Yangtze River Delta to the south, and the Guangdong province and the neighboring cities of Hong Kong and Macau along the country’s prosperous southern coast, WSJ reported.

The project’s policy design is set to be complete by the end of the year, although there’s no set date for when the expansion will begin.

In addition, the less-wealthy parts of China, in the central and western areas of the country, will have a chance at trials for the digital currency if they meet the program requirements, WSJ reported.

The move comes as numerous places around the world look into digital currencies for official business, including the state of California, as it moves ahead with a digital asset bill, Assembly Bill 2150.

According to a report by Cointelegraph, the bill passed by the state Senate Banking and Financial Institutions committee, which is looking to define digital assets and analyze their impact on the state and consumer protections.

China Is Approaching the Release of Digital Yuan by Expanding its Trials

As the idea of issuing the Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) is gaining traction worldwide, China makes practical steps to make their digital yuan release closer. Now, the country is going to expand its trials to test the CBDC potential on a larger scale.

CoinIdol, a world blockchain news outlet, has reported the start of the first digital yuan trials back in spring 2020. Initially, it covered four locations across the country: the cities of Chengdu, Suzhou, Shenzhen, and Xiong'An. It included major commercial banks of the country as well as some well-known global brands such as McDonald’s and Starbucks.

Now, as the Wall Street Journal reports, the People’s Bank of China (PBoC) plans on expanding the pilot’s area to the country’s major cities and provinces including Beijing, the provinces of Tianjin and Hebei, the Yangtze River Delta region, and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The expansion is mostly targeted at checking the operation of the CBDC on a larger scale, as well as shaping of final policies before the full-fledged launch. However, the PBoC haven’t provided any specific date of the expansion start, as well as the planned launch. At the same time, the institution stated that final policy-shaping is expected to be completed before the end of 2020, so the expansion is likely to start in the days ahead.

It was during the summer of 2019 that the Trilateral Commission published an eight page brochure called, ‘Democracies Under Stress: Recreating the Trilateral Commission to Revitalize Our Democracies to Uphold the Rules-Based International Order‘. As I mentioned in an article published back in February, the brochure spoke about how the institution was now dedicated to ‘rediscovering‘ its roots, ‘sharpening‘ its mission and ‘rejuvenating‘ its membership.

This apparent attempt at modernising came in the wake of the deaths of the Trilateral Commission’s two founding members – David Rockefeller and Zbigniew Brzezinski – and also that of former European Chairman of the Commission Peter Sutherland.

On reading the literature, it was plain to see that the group were working to ensure its long term survival by seeking the next generation of corporate, political and academic members, all in a bid to maintain the goals of it’s founding fathers, which include the implementation of a ‘New International Economic Order‘.

More Utility Corruption: Senior CA Commission Official Says She’s Being Ousted After Whistleblowing

There has been extensive news coverage of the massive ongoing and sometimes deadly problems created by California utility company, Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) (see 1, 2, 3, 4, 5). More corruption has been exposed and it’s not isolated to PG&E.

UTILITIES: Senior CPUC official claims she’s being ousted after whistle-blowing

One of the highest-ranking officials at the California agency that regulates private utilities says she is being forced out of her job after she sought to recover $200 million in fees owed to the agency.

Alice Stebbins, who has been executive director of the California Public Utilities Commission since February 2018, was placed on administrative time off and believes her employer is preparing to fire her. Stebbins’ attorney sent a letter Tuesday to her bosses, the five commissioners who govern the agency, claiming she was being retaliated against for trying to “clean up a broken CPUC.”

The letter says Commission President Marybel Batjer told Stebbins that she would be ousted because of ethical concerns about a handful of hires she allowed. But Stebbins told The Chronicle that she suspects the real reason has something to do with about $200 million in outstanding fees that the agency has not collected.

Coast Guard, SCDHEC respond to diesel release on Plum Island

CHARLESTON, S.C. — The Coast Guard and the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC) continue to respond, Sunday, to a report of a diesel release near the Plum Island Wastewater Treatment Plant that occurred Saturday morning.

A Coast Guard Sector Charleston pollution response team along with SCDHEC personnel are monitoring the response of red-dye diesel that was released into a culvert and marsh near Dill Creek. The release had a potential of up to 3,100 gallons. The responsible party has hired the oil spill response organization, HEPACO, to conduct clean up procedures.

HEPACO responders arrived on scene, Saturday, and deployed sorbent pads and hard boom in Dill Creek and Wappoo Creek and used a vacuum truck to remove fuel from the marsh on the northeast side of the water treatment plant.

Sunday’s clean up efforts focused on replenishing and maintaining sorbent pads and hard boom in the marshy areas. The oil spill response organization is reporting 3,000 gallons of diesel and water mix has been collected since the incident.

Coast Guard interdicts 16 migrants 14 miles east of Haulover Inlet

MIAMI — The Coast Guard, along with U.S. Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations, halted a migrant smuggling operation Wednesday, approximately 14 miles east of Haulover Inlet.

A CBP AMO aircraft crew spotted a 25-foot pleasure craft traveling approximately 14 miles east of Haulover Inlet and vectored two CBP surface asset crews to the scene. The CBP crews embarked the 11 Haitian males, four Haitian females, one Bahamian male, one Bahamian female and transferred them to the Coast Guard Cutter Manatee (WPB-87363) crew.

The smuggler was transferred ashore to CBP custody and the interdicted migrants were repatriated to Freeport, Bahamas.

“People should never trust these criminal organizations with their lives,” said Lt. Cmdr. Juan Carlos Avila, Coast Guard Sector Miami chief of enforcement. “Attempting to smuggle yourself into the country via the maritime environment is both extremely dangerous and illegal. With the consistent danger these smuggling ventures present, our crews and partner agencies remain persistently vigilant to protect lives and enforce federal laws.

COVID relief loans went to Ukrainian tycoons accused of money laundering, records show

Five American companies owned by Ukrainian tycoons who are accused of laundering money and using the misappropriated funds to help buy U.S. assets were approved for as much as $13.3 million in loans through a federal program aimed at saving jobs during the pandemic, according to U.S. government records.

CC Metals & Alloys, Felman Production, Felman Trading Americas, Optima Management Group, and Optima 777 were among the more than 600,000 U.S. businesses approved for loans of $150,000 or more under the federal government’s Paycheck Protection Program, commonly called the PPP, Treasury Department records show.

The U.S. Justice Department filed a civil complaint on August 6 that accuses Ukrainian billionaires Ihor Kolomoyskiy and Hennadiy Boholyubov of laundering hundreds of millions of dollars from a Kyiv-based bank and using the misappropriated funds to help purchase assets in the United States, including alloy and steel plants as well as real estate.

The two men control CC Metals & Alloys, Felman Production, Felman Trading Americas, Optima Management Group, and Optima 777 with their U.S. associates, Uriel Laber and Mordechai Korf, according to the Justice Department’s lawsuit.

Trump’s election victory will boost US stock market, Biden-Harris win will be ‘disastrous’ – Mark Mobius

President Trump’s stance of lifting COVID lockdowns will kickstart the country’s economic recovery, according to veteran investor Mark Mobius. He believes governments should lift lockdowns to get economies going.

In an interview with the Financial News London, the CEO of Mobius Capital Partners said that Trump’s win in the November presidential election would “definitely” boost the US stock market. “His goal is to get people back to work, reduce unemployment and generally boost the economy,” Mobius said, adding that Democratic candidate Joe Biden and his running mate Kamala Harris’ victory would be “disastrous.”

According to the latest Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll, Trump is losing ground to former US vice president Joe Biden. Fifty percent of US registered voters say they would vote for Biden if the election were held now, while 41 percent back Trump.

Talking about how the coronavirus crisis has battered the world’s largest economies, Mobius said that governments should “cease the shutdown actions and allow people to return to their normal living and working routine.”
