After House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said over the weekend she would call the House back this week, a senior House Democratic aide told ABC News Monday that the House is expected to vote Saturday on a measure that will include $25 billion in new funding for the post office.

The bill also would seek to reverse operational changes made to the agency since January 2020 that many Democrats say will hurt handling ballots.

Per an aide, the $25 billion number was requested directly by the USPS Board of Governors. The aide notes that the Board is "100% Trump appointees."

THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR of the Massachusetts Democratic Party, as the scandal around congressional candidate Alex Morse began to implode, told student leaders to delete records of communications between themselves and the state party, according to five sources with knowledge of the matter. The executive director, Veronica Martinez, had personally coordinated with College Democrats ahead of the release of allegations of sexual impropriety against the Holyoke mayor.

Martinez, one of at least three senior members of the party who spoke with the College Democrats of Massachusetts about the Morse allegations, made the demand after reporting from The Intercept early last week revealed the existence of a long-running scheme by some members of CDMA and the organization’s UMass Amherst chapter to undermine Morse, according to two people involved with College Democrats of Massachusetts leadership and three members of the commonwealth’s Democratic State Committee, all of whom spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisals. The College Democrats have also been advised not to put anything additional in writing.

Purdue Pharma LP, the bankrupt maker of OxyContin painkillers, inflicted more than US$2.15 trillion in financial damage on the U.S. economy while pushing highly addictive opioids on Americans for nearly two decades, dozens of states told a judge.

Almost every U.S. state and territory will seek to recover a fraction of those alleged losses in Purdue’s Chapter 11 case, which the company filed to deal with thousands of civil lawsuits over opioid-relates deaths and injuries. New York’s losses alone total more than $165 billion, according to a joint filing by the states on Monday in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in White Plains, New York, where a judge will have to decide how to divvy up Purdue’s assets.

The filing comes as Purdue and its billionaire owners, the Sackler family, who aren’t in bankruptcy, deny arguments that a global settlement proposed in bankruptcy court falls short of what local and state governments need for dealing with the financial cost of the opioid crisis.
