I don't think it's a put on though. I recall an interview with his sister saying Trump was a fanatic of their pastor (Norman Vincent Peale, of Power of Positive Thinking fame), and Trump took all of that to heart at an early age. He's completely unflappable and almost chronically unable to be negative.
