Now imagine this population was subjected to the horrors of war in all of their homelands, along with being carted around to work camps
Then they see pestilence and starvation in the waning days as Allies cut off supply lines to said camps
Then these PTSD victims are submersed in overwhelming propaganda contextualizing (falsely) all of the trauma they just experienced.
The fact that so many Jews came out of that time period vouching for the narrative that was fed to them is one of the least surprising things to have happened.
