The problem is that the reporting was politicized from day 1, with far too many incentives for misstatement. The accounts of hospitals, doctors and coroners being leaned on to boost Covid death count are legion. Maybe there’s scrubbed data somewhere, but I think it unlikely on anything but a sample basis, which might not provide a statistically significant adjustment basis for the whole set.

 

This will go down as one of the biggest data clusterfucks of all time.

The bottom line is that even with the data as it stands, this was no more serious than an elevated season of influenza; and far less broad demographically in its impact.
