Former Fort Polk soldier who sexually abused girl under 12 gets life sentence

LAFAYETTE, La. — A federal judge has sentenced a former soldier stationed in Louisiana to life in prison for sexually abusing a girl for years, starting when she was less than 12 years old.

Judge Jay Zainey also ordered 41-year-old Ronald W. Allen Jr. to pay $72,000 restitution, Acting U.S. Attorney Alexander C. Van Hook said in a news release Tuesday.

Soldier killed while trying to help others following a traffic accident in Texas

Fort Hood officials on Tuesday released the name of a soldier who died Aug. 12 from injuries suffered while providing assistance at the scene of an accident on Interstate 14 in Killeen, Texas.

Spc. Cole Jakob Aton, 22, was killed when a vehicle driving past the accident was unable to avoid him, Texas officials said.
