Subterranean Saurian race - A native Terran species evolved from cave-dwelling dinosaurs that survived the fifth extinction. Their vocal hardware differs greatly from that of humans and thus their infrequently-used spoken language cannot be transliterated into Human tongues, so we do not yet have a proper name by which to call them. They predominantly inhabit the subterranean spaces beneath North America, East Asia, and the Pacific Islands. They have developed significant sexual and occupational polymorphism, with more than 50 different polymorphs within their greater species. They primarily communicate via sympathetic waves, and this communication is organized and directed by members of their "Elder" caste, who are specialized toward advanced organizational communication and longevity. These Elders provide direction and unity to the disparate castes, many of which have difficulty interacting with one another on their own. It is estimated that between 50 and 200 individuals interact with Humanity via the internet as part of a limited contact experiment, as this race has decided that it wishes to establish peaceable relations and eventually cohabitate with Humans on the surface. However, some evidence suggests that they have successfully bred one of their castes into titanic monsters, each individually capable of ending Human civilization. Relations are tenuous, especially given that hydro-fracking has caused severe damage to some of their subterranean infrastructure. While they are carnivorous, they raise their own livestock that are adapted to subterranean life and subsist on fungi grown from waste water.
No member of either species is capable of shape-shifting into a human and no human is capable of shape-shifting into one of them. However, the subterranean saurian race includes one or more castes specialized to possess extremely effective optical camouflage, and these individuals are known to spy on prominent Human figures or carry out assassinations and other political missions and espionage that suit their inscrutable purposes.
