Chicago mayor's block filled with cops in protest lockdown; locals mock 'Fort Lori'

Democrat: 'I have a right to make sure that my home is secure'

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s neighbors say their entire block has turned into “Fort Lori” as she uses dozens of cops to keep protesters at bay.

Locals from Logan Square spoke to The Chicago Tribune about the hypocrisy of publicly touting protesters while using dozens of police to arrest anyone who enters the Democrat’s block.

The newspaper noted that up to 50 officers have been used within two blocks of the mayor’s house and individuals entering the area have been asked to show their ID cards.

“I came up with the name ‘Fort Lori’ because it’s so hard to get in and out,” Ron Kaminecki, a business owner and patent attorney, told the newspaper Thursday.

“As a neighbor, I find protests and actions near her home significantly less disruptive than her response to the protestors, which only aim to keep her from having to listen to the voices of her constituents,” added Lauren Dean via email.

A Denver grand jury on Thursday indicted seven individuals and 12 businesses on 33 felony counts in a human trafficking scheme.

Denver police and the district attorney's office conducted a year-long investigation called "Operation Bad Apple" into a number of massage parlors and illegal marijuana businesses that investigators believe garnered millions of dollars by trafficking women from China, laundering money and evading taxes, according to a statement.

"The defendants were hiding in plain sight as they trafficked women from China to engage in sex acts with customers of their massage businesses," Denver District Attorney Beth McCann said in a statement, adding that the businesses have since closed.

The operation has been linked to Denver County, Douglas County, Arapahoe County, Routt County and Jefferson County, as well as locations outside the state in Oklahoma, California and Louisiana, the DA's office reported.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Firefighters are battling a major fire in Corpus Christi following a pipeline explosion along the city's refinery row.

The blast happened just after 8:05 a.m. near Lantana and I-37, possibly at EPIC Products near Lantana and Navigation.

Firefighters said the fire ignited a barge, which became fully engulfed. The fire then spread from the pipeline to the grain elevator.

KRIS reports that multiple people during the explosion ended up in the water.

CHRISTUS Spohn Shoreline representatives said they are treating four people from the explosion. The extent of their injuries is unknown at this time.

Two victims are being flown to Brooke Army Medical Center burn units in San Antonio.

KRIS has learned that EPIC Products had a brand new pipeline built for loading. It was reportedly going in at the facility when there was a pipeline rupture at the barge loading dock.

Virginia, I hope they send armned officers too

https://vadogwood.com/2020/08/21/marcus-alert-to-send-mental-health-specialists-instead-of-police-passes-key-senate-committee/

The legislation was named after Marcus-David Peters, a 24-year-old teacher who was shot and killed by a Richmond police officer in 2018 while experiencing a mental health emergency.

WRIC reported that the responding officer was heard on video acknowledging Peter’s mental state, saying “the male seems to be mentally unstable as we speak.”

“Marcus needed help, not death,” Sen. Jennifer McClellan (D-Richmond) told WBDJ. “But the system and structure that we have in place today failed Marcus, his family, and our entire community. And we can do something to fix it.”

The bill is a combination of two bills proposed by McClellan and Sen. Jeremy Pike (D-Dale City). If passed, the bill would establish a co-response system between law enforcement, mental health service providers, and peer recovery specialists.

Peter’s family has been pushing for the “Marcus Alert” for years after his death. His sister, Princess Blanding, has been outspoken about the importance of police and criminal justice reform.

After the vote, the bill was sent to the Finance Committee on the third day of the General Assembly’s two week special session focused around retooling the state budget and reforming police and criminal justice policy.
