Thrown from the roof, almost

8:20 minutes

How the hell did you end up on top of this skyscraper?

Forty-eight floors are stacked below you.

Gusts of wind try to throw you off the deck.

You don’t normally suffer from fear of heights, but now you wonder why there isn’t a simple railing to keep you from falling over the edge.

The instructions were explicit: close the rooftop access door behind you, and then barricade it so your attacker won’t be able to follow you outside.

But while you’re fighting the storm, you see that the door starts moving. Somebody is pushing against it. Inch by inch, the gap seems to grow.

What on earth is happening?

A week ago, you were still safely at home, enjoying your favorite series on television.

You may be a student working through your online classes, trying to keep up with the pace. Figuring out what you want to do after you graduate.

Or you may be a business owner working day and night to serve your customers. Making sure your team is happy. Figuring out ways to make enough money to feed all the mouths that depend on your company.

Or perhaps you have a job. You’re a clerk or a supervisor waking up early every morning to put in some extra time in the gym. Trying to keep both your muscles and your sanity intact.

I have no idea.

I don’t know who you are.

But what I do know is that three days ago your phone rang.

You sat on the toilet…not the best place to take a call.

Since you didn’t recognize the number it was easy to ignore.

Ten minutes later, the same number called.

Half an hour later, again.

And again.
