Just a regular day of back burning operations…trying to reduce fuel loads.

The heli pilot was having trouble seeing the ridge lines because the smoke from the past couple of days was hanging around. His operator dropped the incendiaries down slope and the fire got a run up to the top of the mountain and it got a little intense.

Probably had less to do with my fire and more so that the atmosphere was primed for it.

The hot, humid air from the fire was able to punch through the cap and form a little thunderstorm in some particularly cold air that had moved in.

Check out your 911 firefighters digits.

>firefighters in towns have an impact while those fighting forest fires do not?

Not really… Can't comment on the exact situation in CA but where i'm from they are two very separate roles; Urban and Rural.

Urban firefighters drive around in big red trucks, saving ppl in car crashes, going into burning buildings and rescuing cats from trees. Angels…every one of them.

Rural fire fighters handle the forest fires. They are two very different beasts and each agency is resourced and skilled accordingly.

I would be hopeless at a truck roll over carrying hazmat but i could run a 10000 hectare bush fire, no worries.

Never heard of using inmates as fire fighters… sounds pretty bizarre to me but anythings possible in Commiefornia.

I'm sure the commander had his reasons.

I've had to make similar calls due to lack of resources, weather forecasts, critical infrastructure that got priority etc etc.

Sometimes, it's better just to let it burn! You might be surprised to learn how much fire lighting is involved in fire fighting

A big part of the job these days is dealing with urban encroachment into natural areas. It's a balancing act and requires tonnes of planning and community engagement and education. Dealing with smoke from a 'planned burn' might suck for a couple of weeks but the alternative is having your house burn down in a raging inferno come summer. It comes with the territory and you've got to expect it if you live close to a national park/forest.

All i can say is support your fire fighters. Sometimes it's a thankless task that attracts a lot of criticism from the public because of the temporary inconvenience caused by fire ops.
