Anyone that knows anything beyond the official fairytale is suspicious of Rudy. But whether he was complicit in the plot (as opposed to the cover up) [unlikely in my view], or just following the only practicable course of action in the immediate aftermath [probable], is something we might never know.

There were (and still are) forces in play that can’t be resisted by a few isolated figures bold enough to speak the truth. When the might of the machine is mobilized, inconvenient truth tellers are quickly neutralized. And, in the days following 9/11, who outside of the operational planners even knew the truth? Suspicion of something amiss is not a sufficient justification for putting a target on one’s head. Over the years, I’ve developed some sympathy for the people, like Rudy, that really had little real option other than to do what was demanded of them and endorse the fables.

In all events, and notable in this present context, truth has to be capable of being received and recognized as truth for any general positive benefit to result from its exposure. That applied in 2001-3 and it applies today.
