Kamala Harris vs. China – is VP candidate a hawk in the making?

Kamala's Chinese name.. conflicting information here..Fox news reports her using a Chinese name as a Fed requirement for San Francisco, However there are other reports of this being suggested as a means of getting elected in the Chinese community when she was DA

Important Snippet:

In the end, perhaps China’s propagandists will make Harris into a hawk. China’s Global Times even mocked Harris’ Chinese name. Yes, the Federal Voting Rights Act required Harris and all other candidates to choose a Chinese name for the ballot in San Francisco, where over 17% of registered voters are Chinese speakers. Harris, who says her first name Kamala stands for “lotus flower,” branched out and chose He Jinli for her Chinese ballot name. It means intricate, beautiful celebration. It’s a California thing.

Why is a federal voting law only applicable to San Franciso? Also this article doesn't cite specific law, just states it as a matter of fact. So where did this come from?

This articles shows other candidates who also had to choose Chinese names.

Attorney General Kamala Harris, now a candidate for U.S. Senate, also took major liberties with her Chinese name — He Jinli. Her given name, which sounds nothing like Kamala, translates to “intricate and beautiful,” and her surname means “celebrate.”

For SF candidates, Chinese name can spell edge at poll

Kamala Harris with Chinese name

Kamala Harris is not of Chinese descent, nor has he ever engaged in academic research or diplomatic work related to China, but after Biden announced that she was invited to be his running partner, Taiwan and Hong Kong media have called her He Jinli . American Chinese media pointed out that this actually originated from the San Francisco Chinese community and Chinese media. In a report in January 2019, the North American "World Journal" of Taiwan's "United Daily News" pointed out that when Harris was running for the San Francisco District Attorney in 2003, he and Su Rongli, a government lawyer who had known for many years, asked her father Su Xifen to help Kama. La Harris took the Chinese name, and finally named He Jinli. Su Xifen is no longer alive, but he was an overseas Chinese leader in California and an active member of the Chinese Association of a well-known Chinese organization in the United States. According to the report: "Candidates who have run for public office in San Francisco over the past ten years, regardless of ethnic Chinese or non-Chinese, have very Chinese names. It was He Jinli who started this tradition."

Here's what this situation looks like: It appears there is a Federal Voting Law that requires ballots to be in the dominate language of certain populations over specific numbers. Kamala's district fell in to this area with the China Town district in San Francisco. Kamala took the law a step further and gave herself a Chinese name to pander to the Chinese community. That action of hers created a trend that lasted for 10 years, during that time others followed believing they needed to do so. The law was clarified to state candidates could not alter their given names.
