Madeleine McCann prime suspect was found with secret stash of 391 child porn photos and 68 vile videos, as court records reveal the full horror of crimes that landed Christian Brueckner in jail

The prime suspect in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann was found with hundreds of child porn photographs and videos of young boys and girls.

The Mail on Sunday has established that Christian Brueckner used a Casio Exilim digital camera to store 391 child porn pictures and 68 videos showing the rape and abuse of minors.

It was the same device that he used to take images of himself sexually abusing the five-year-old daughter of an ex-girlfriend.

The camera and its contents became the main evidence against Brueckner, 42, during two trials in which he was accused of sexually abusing the girl and possessing child pornography.

He fled to Portugal after being acquitted in 2016, but admitted his guilt when he was extradited back to Germany a year later. He was given a 15-month jail sentence.

A ten-page judgment from Braunschweig District Court reveals that the photographs showed children under the age of 14 being abused by adults, while others involved children being forced to perform sex acts.

Police said the videos had been downloaded from the internet and stored on the camera’s memory card.

The judgment adds that there were several naked pictures of another ex-girlfriend of Brueckner’s – not the mother of the five-year-old – and photographs of her having sex with him.

Police also found a Reck P6E blank pistol with ammunition in his flat – illegal to possess without a licence under German law.

According to the document, the abuse of the five-year-old took place on June 16, 2013, in Braunschweig at around the same time that Brueckner came on to the radar of German investigators as a suspect in the disappearance of Madeleine.

It adds he took pictures of the abuse and ‘saved them on his later confiscated camera with the intent to later arouse himself sexually’.

Police received a tip-off about Brueckner following an appeal over Madeleine on German TV six years after she disappeared from her family holiday apartment in the Praia da Luz resort in Portugal in May 2007.

Brueckner was living in the area at the time and police have said that mobile data shows he was near Maddie’s apartment on the evening she was abducted.

The judgment also noted that at the time of his arrest in 2014, Brueckner was on parole for a drugs offence he had committed in Niebull, a German city near the Danish border.

While he was being investigated for child abuse, he was caught trying to steal diesel from a truck in a parking lot in May 2015.

He was then arrested for drink-driving in September the same year and, two months later, assaulted his then girlfriend at a bus stop in Braunschweig.

After being jailed for the child abuse, Brueckner – now serving a sentence for drugs offences – was convicted of the rape of a 72-year-old American woman in Praia da Luz and received a seven-year prison term.

His lawyers have sought to have that conviction overturned due to what they claim was a procedural error in his extradition from Portugal to Germany in 2017.

Last month, police searched an allotment near Hanover where Brueckner lived for a time after returning to Germany, shortly after Maddie disappeared in Portugal.

Madeleine McCann prime suspect reportedly sexually abused five-year-old girl

The prime suspect in Madeleine McCann’s abduction once sexually abused an ex-girlfriend’s five-year-old daughter — and was busted after explicit photos were found on his laptop, according to a report.

Christian Brückner, 43, assaulted the youngster in a public park in Braunschweig, northern Germany in 2013 and took graphic photos at the scene, officials told the Mail on Sunday.

They were then found when he was accused of domestic abuse against a different ex — and the disgusting child abuse images were discovered by police who searched his laptop and other devices, the paper said.

Brückner — called Christian B. by authorities and whose surname is also sometimes spelled Brueckner — had already returned to Portugal, the country where McCann went missing in 2007 at age three.

German authorities issued an EU-wide arrest warrant, the UK paper said.

But he was not arrested in Portugal for another four years — busted after he was accused of exposing himself to kids in a park about 40 miles from where McCann was abducted, the report states.

Brückner was extradited back to Germany and given a 15-month prison term after being convicted in 2017, the Sunday paper said, citing Hanover’s chief prosecutor, Thomas Klinge.

He has also been convicted of the 2005 rape of a 72-year-old American tourist in the same Portuguese resort where Maddie went missing — but has yet to start his seven-year sentence while it is being appealed.

Brückner was already in prison on drug charges when he was named as the prime suspect in McCann’s disappearance, the biggest missing children’s case in recent history.

Officials have previously claimed they now have “concrete evidence” the British youngster is dead — but Brückner’s attorney has reportedly declared his confidence that his client will never get charged.

That attorney, Friedrich Fulscher, declined to comment on the Mail on Sunday’s report. Brückner has always denied taking McCann.

Madeleine McCann’s parents told there is ‘concrete evidence’ she is dead

The parents of missing British girl Madeleine McCann have been formally told that there is “concrete evidence” she is dead, according to reports Tuesday.

German prosecutors investigating a jailed rapist who is now the new prime suspect in the 2007 abduction gave the heartbreaking warning to Maddie’s parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, in a letter, the Sun said.

“We have written to the McCanns to tell them Madeleine is dead and explaining we just cannot say what the evidence is,” German prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters said Tuesday, according to the UK paper.

“We have concrete evidence that our suspect has killed Madeleine,” he insisted of Christian Brückner, who is behind bars for raping an American tourist.

He said there was “no realistic hope she is alive,” stressing, “This is a murder case, not a missing person’s case.”

British police were also alerted to the conclusion, but were not given all the evidence, Wolters said.

“I don’t think the McCanns have been informed of all the details but they know the results,” he said.

The McCanns’ lawyer in Portugal — where Maddie was abducted from a vacation resort in May 2007 when she was 3 years old — insists that German investigators should release the evidence they have backing the death claim.

“I sympathize with the parents but if we reveal more details to them, it might jeopardize the investigation,” Wolters said, according to the report.

“I know it would be of relief to the parents to know how she died but it would hamper the investigation if we give away too much information.

“We can understand the pain of the parents and they want relief, but it is better for them that we have a clear and successful conclusion to the case.”

He said there is “no forensic evidence,” just “other evidence which indicates she is dead.”

“It would be easier for them if I could tell them what we know but I can’t,” he said of the parents.

The McCann family’s spokesman, Clarence Mitchell, told the Sun, “Kate and Gerry simply do not comment on private correspondence received from police and nor will they be giving a running commentary.”

Madeleine would have turned 17 on May 12 this year.

The message makes it clear they have no doubts that the couple’s daughter is dead and suspect Christian B is responsible.

But it says revealing the evidence too soon might damage the chances of him ever coming to trial.

Prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters Wolters said today: “We have written to the McCanns to tell them Madeleine is dead and explaining we just cannot say what the evidence is.

“We have concrete evidence that our suspect has killed Madeleine.

“British police have been informed but don’t have all the evidence we have. The results of our investigation have been shared but not every detail has been passed to Scotland Yard.

“I don’t think the McCanns have been informed of all the details but they know the results.”

The bookish Thai rights lawyer who challenged the king

The deafening cheer for Anon Nampa at Thailand’s biggest demonstration in years underlined the bookish human rights lawyer’s emergence at the forefront of a youth protest movement with his taboo-breaking call for reforms to the monarchy.

“He looks quite harmless,” Rangsiman Rome, a former activist who is now an opposition member of parliament, told Reuters.

“But once he gets the microphone and gets on stage or starts working, he becomes a different, serious person.”

Although the protest movement has no single leader, Anon’s Aug. 3 call for curbs on the power of the monarchy shook Thai politics in a way not known in living memory and made him a hero for some and a hate figure for others.

His open challenge put Anon at risk of arrest under “lese majeste” charges, which can mean 15 years in jail.

“I think there is a need for everyone to be able to talk about the monarchy openly and constructively,” Anon told Reuters. “I think society is becoming more open about this.”

The Royal Palace did not comment on Anon or on the protesters’ demands for change when contacted by Reuters. Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha has said the king requested that nobody be prosecuted for lese majeste for now.

Anon was arrested within days of his call for reform of the monarchy, though on unrelated charges linked to earlier demonstrations, fuelling the protest movement as supporters rallied at the police station before he was freed on bail.

Other student groups, meanwhile, followed up with a 10-point demand for reforms to King Maha Vajiralongkorn’s monarchy as the topic has gone from something discussed only in whispers to a regular theme at protests.

“We dream of a monarchy that coexists with democracy,” Anon said to cheers from a crowd of more than 10,000 people in Bangkok on Sunday, Thailand’s biggest protest in years.

“We must achieve this within our generation.”

Such comments infuriate royalists.

“His action breaches good morals and degraded the honour and prestige of the profession,” said Apiwat Kantong, an adviser in the prime minister’s office who has filed legal complaints against Anon in a private capacity.

“His name should be removed from the bar registration as soon as possible,” he said. Thailand’s Lawyers Council did not comment on Apiwat’s request to take this action.

At 35, Anon is older than most of the student protesters he advises. He draws on his experience of an earlier round of protests and years of court appearances to defend government critics.

FARMING FAMILY

Anon grew up in a farming family in the poor, rice-growing northeastern province of Roi Et, where opposition to the Bangkok-based establishment runs deep.

His activism began in high school and he started working in human rights in 2006, the year that elected populist leader Thaksin Shinawatra was overthrown in a military coup.

Once Anon qualified as a lawyer in Bangkok, he saw his mission as defending society’s weakest.

“Many cases he took are victims of harassment who nobody knows,” said Krisadang Nutcharat, another human rights lawyer.

In 2010, Anon set up a legal practice to help those affected by bloody clashes between Thaksin’s supporters and the authorities.

After the then army chief Prayuth seized power in a 2014 coup, Anon took on cases of political activists - including those who had been charged with lese majeste offences against the monarchy.

“In many cases, the accused spoke truthfully but the things they said are unacceptable for society at large … The court still ruled that they are guilty,” Anon said. “This is why I became interested in the monarchy.”

The reforms Anon seeks to the monarchy include reducing the king’s constitutional powers, which were expanded after he succeeded his late father in 2016, and dropping the lese majeste laws.

As Anon stepped up his political activism after the 2014 coup, so the arrests began. In 2015, he was charged with organising a banned political gathering.

Including the most recent arrest, he has been charged 13 times. Of the six cases that have concluded, three were thrown out and he faced fines totalling 2,200 baht ($70) over the others. Seven cases are pending, including some for protests in 2018 to demand fair elections.

Critics accuse Prayuth of keeping power in elections last year by benefiting from electoral rules shaped by the army that helped him win. He has said the vote was fair.

With a passion for history and literature, some of Anon’s inspiration - and the picture on his Twitter profile - is from 1950s-era Marxist historian and activist Chit Phumisak, whose publications include “The Real Face of Thai Feudalism”.

In his spare time, Anon writes poetry - much of it politically inspired. One line he wrote in the aftermath of the bloodshed in 2010 reads: “With red flag raised and bravely challenging, come comrades, revolt and topple this thievish state.”

Trump’s QAnon comments show how cruel he is to his own supporters

This past week, Donald Trump committed an act of casual, appalling cruelty against some of his most passionate supporters.

At a news conference Wednesday, Trump was given an opportunity to comment on the deranged conspiracy theory and loose movement known as QAnon, which posits that (deep breath now) the world is secretly run by a shadowy cabal of elite Satan-worshipping cannibal pedophiles — adherents typically count Hillary Clinton and George Soros as members — who extract powerful drugs from the glands of tortured children, concealing their insidious activities via their dominion over Hollywood, the news media, and the “Deep State.” Trump himself occupies a central role in QAnon’s mythos, cast as the unlikely savior who will finally, any day now, shatter this dastardly cabal in a vaguely eschatological grand offensive reverently dubbed “The Storm.”

Updates on Trump’s top-secret Plan against the cabal are, for some reason, provided to the faithful via cryptic communiques on fringy Internet message boards, posted by the eponymous Q, who purports to be a highly-placed Trump administration insider. There’s plenty more — QAnon canon is as baroque as any comic book continuity — but you get the drift. There is, needless to say, no actual evidence for this bizarre fantasy.

When Trump was asked to weigh in on this burgeoning movement, the right answer should have been simple and obvious: “Q is not real; anyone who buys into this hoax is being taken advantage of.” But Trump failed this embarrassingly basic test of honesty and decency.

First, he claimed (implausibly) to be unfamiliar with the movement’s theories, but praised them as patriots. Then, when pressed on their central doctrine — the belief that he is “secretly saving the world from this satanic cult of pedophiles and cannibals” — he offered what sounded to believers like a winking confirmation. “I hadn’t heard that,” he replied, “but is that supposed to be a bad thing? If I can help save the world from problems, I’m willing to do it, I’m willing to put myself out there. And we are actually, we are saving the world from a radical left philosophy that will destroy this country.” QAnon adherents were over the moon.

To see how truly reckless and damaging this was, it’s important to understand that QAnon is not a harmless delusion. The FBI last year assessed that QAnon and similar theories present a genuine threat, probably to inspire “both groups and individual extremists to carry out criminal or violent acts.” Indeed, they have already done so on multiple occasions, as the Combating Terrorism Center at West Point has documented. One QAnon adherent will soon face trial for kidnapping her children from foster care under the false belief she was “saving” them from the sinister cabal. Another apparent QAnon adherent was arrested after she attempted to ram her car into the vehicles of strangers who she imagined were pedophiles. Another endangered his own children by leading police on a high-speed car chase — which he streamed online while pleading for QAnon and Donald Trump to save him.

Only a handful of the many thousands of QAnon believers are disturbed enough to endanger others so dramatically. But many, many more are effectively destroying their own lives in quieter ways, sacrificing ties to friends and family as they chase Q’s clues down an online rabbit hole. The “QAnon Casualties” group on the Web forum Reddit, which now boasts nearly 19,000 members, is a heartbreaking catalogue of ruined relationships: friends and loved ones “lost” to the cult of Q, descending ever further into fear, anger and paranoia as their detachment from reality alienates husbands from wives and parents from children and grandchildren.

The spread of QAnon also threatens to damage the Republican Party as a whole. The upcoming election will see several professed Q believers running on Republican tickets — one of whom, Marjorie Taylor Greene, is in such a solidly Republican district that she’s all but guaranteed to win a seat in the House of Representatives. The Texas Republican Party has openly employed QAnon slogans and iconography. And Trump’s endorsement, broadcast on national television from the White House, is bound to send a fresh crop of his supporters on an expedition into the fever swamps.

Trump — by dint of his central place in QAnon’s mythology — is in a unique position to put the brakes on all of this. To be sure, the most hardcore true believers would probably be undeterred even by a clear disavowal from the president. We’ve already seen numerous dramatic QAnon prophecies — Hillary Clinton’s arrest imminent! Robert Mueller secretly working with Trump against the evil cabal, with the Russia investigation as an elaborate cover! — whose failure to come true was quickly rationalized away by the devout. But some would probably snap out of it and begin piecing their lives back together. And halting the Republican Party’s institutional flirtation would at least slow the spread of the virus to new victims.

It would take almost no effort from Trump — a few sentences — to mitigate the damage QAnon is doing to both his party and his most ardent fans. It would cost him almost nothing politically: Most of the folks lost in the QAnon funhouse were probably Trump supporters before they stumbled in, and they’ll surely remain supporters after they’re led out. Yet it seems clear that, at least absent strong pressure from fellow Republicans, Trump has no intention of doing the right thing. His ego, apparently, is so satisfyingly stroked by QAnon’s worship that he’s willing to let his party further humiliate itself, and his own admirers wreck their families, rather than say anything to dispel a fantasy in which he is cast as the messiah.

That may not be as grotesque or dramatic as drinking the blood of children, but it is certainly a sort of human sacrifice.
