One major reason that the flyover section of the country is not aligned with the coasts is this very thing you call instant gratification.

The rural areas of the country understand that thing take time to accomplish

The urban areas never learn the agricultural lessons of delayed gratification

I've long seen the world in terms of

 

cult of the cowboy

vs.

cult of victimhood

 

pick yourself up, learn what went wrong and try again

vs.

stay down, cry about it, blame everyone else and wait for someone else to fix it
