A little off topic but I think you all can see this connecting somehow.
If parasites are real, wouldn't it be possible that we are all infected?
Could this parasite be an alien species brought in a long time ago?
Are we looking at this the wrong way?

These people are sick. (Like literally sick infected, which make them act "sick minded")
These people are stupid. (Parasites main purpose is too spread and infect, they literally are controlled to do whatever is necessary for their(the parasites)survival. They dont think too far ahead)
