Oh the "laser wands" you mention might be referencing activating something called photorhodopsin. Its a method used to turn on and off genetic signalling events. You can make mutants that express these genes very easily. The "wands" we used for cranial applications in rodents were hair thin so if they were expressing something similar you could possibly insert it through the tear duct? or nose, im thinking nose
