Similar ideas coming from a common milieu (especially a long established religious milieu, with common traditions and authoritative texts) does not necessarily imply any organizational connection.
The teachings of John the Baptizer (a nazarite, dedicated to religious asceticism from birth) and Jesus of Nazareth are both fully consistent with the varieties of Jewish belief and emphasis found within the Second Temple period in Palestine.
It is no novel recognition that the theology and religious practices of the Essenes had more in common with the renewal movement around John and Jesus (John’s followers ultimately being absorbed by the circle around Jesus) than with Pharisaism.
