Some people hear that and think.. ALIENS.. or DEMONS! People have amazing imagination. It doesn't need to be fantastical. It could be as simple as "The plan of the bad guys is so far reaching and invasive people will have a hard time believing the scope and size" because no one wants to hear about how they were fooled and/or how little freedom and safety they had.
