First thing I have seen is that not all countries have had excess deaths. Consider Estonia, for example.

My screen cap shows that there are not excess deaths currently in parts of the UK. In fact the highlighted number shows that mortality is LOWER than normal.

So, in my opinion, even if "COVID-19" is listed as cause of death for a lot of people, in numerous countries, those countries may or may not be seeing overall EXCESS deaths.
