IDF Says 'Security Incident' Has Unfolded Along Israeli-Lebanese Border

Flares were spotted around Manara, a kibbutz in northern Israel, as the Israeli Defense Force (IDF) confirmed the presence of a "security incident" along the country's border with Lebanon.

The IDF issued a social media memo late Tuesday evening confirming that several closures had occurred in the area as a result of the "security incident."

"A security incident in the Menara area on the Lebanese border. Some of the axes in the space have been blocked. Details in review," the translated tweet read.

Video from the scene accompanied early reports that alleged sounds of gunfire in the area.

The IDF went on to announce that personnel are now conducting searches in the communities of Manara, Maragaliot, Malkia, Misgav Am and Yiftach. Residents of the aforementioned areas have been ordered to remain in their homes and lock their doors.

"The residents are required to stay in the houses and upon receiving the warning to enter a protected area immediately - MMAD / MMK, shared shelter, internal stairwell or internal room in the house, close doors and windows and stay there for 10 minutes," the service stated.

The Jerusalem Post reported that approximately 30 flares were launched along the Israeli border with Lebanon, which has received added attention from the IDF following vows by Hezbollah to avenge the July killing of one of their personnel during an Israeli airstrike in Syria.

Tomato Gardeners: The Latest Victim in the Government's War on Drugs

A journal entry from a California resident describes the government’s aerial searches for marijuana plants:

They came again this morning at about 8:00 o’clock. A large cargo-type helicopter flew low over the cabin, shaking it on its very foundations. It shook all of us inside, too. I feel frightened … I see how helpless and tormented I am becoming with disgust and disillusionment with the government which has turned this beautiful country into a police state … I feel like I am in the middle of a war zone.”

Backyard gardeners, beware: tomato plants have become collateral damage in the government’s war on drugs, especially marijuana.

In fact, merely growing a vegetable garden on your own property, or in a greenhouse on your property, or shopping at a gardening store for gardening supplies—incredibly enough—could set you up for a drug raid sanctioned by the courts.

It’s happened before

After shopping for hydroponic tomatoes at their local gardening store, a Kansas family found themselves subjected to a SWAT team raid as part of a multi-state, annual campaign dubbed “Operation Constant Gardener,” in which police collected the license plates of hundreds of customers at the gardening store and then investigated them for possible marijuana possession.

By “investigated,” I mean that police searched through the family’s trash. (You can thank the Supreme Court and their 1978 ruling in California v. Greenwood for allowing police to invade your trash can.) Finding “wet glob vegetation” in the garbage, the cops somehow managed to convince themselves—and a judge—that it was marijuana.

In fact, it was loose-leaf tea, but those pesky details don’t usually bother the cops when they’re conducting field tests.

Indeed, field tests routinely read positive for illegal drugs even when no drugs are present. According to investigative journalist Radley Balko, “it’s almost as if these tests come up positive whenever the police need them to. A partial list of substances that the tests have mistaken for illegal drugs would include sage, chocolate chip cookies, motor oil, spearmint, soap, tortilla dough, deodorant, billiard’s chalk, patchouli, flour, eucalyptus, breath mints, Jolly Ranchers and vitamins.”

There’s a long list of innocent ingredients that could be mistaken for drugs and get you subjected to a raid, because that’s all it takes—just the barest whiff of a suspicion by police that you might be engaged in criminal activity—to start the ball rolling.

From there, these so-called “investigations” follow the usual script: judge issues a warrant for a SWAT raid based on botched data, cops raid the home and terrorize the family at gunpoint, cops find no drugs, family sues over a violation of their Fourth Amendment rights, and then the courts protect the cops and their botched raid on the basis of qualified immunity.

Florida Judge Hands Teachers Union Opposed To School Reopenings A Victory

A Florida judge ruled in favor of a teachers union Monday in a lawsuit against the State of Florida over an executive order requiring schools to open statewide in the fall.

Judge Charles Dodson’s decision temporarily nullifies Florida Department of Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran’s July 6 emergency order that ordered all brick and mortar schools to open for in-person classes by the end of August. Dodson deferred school opening decisions to local school boards.

“This is what the local school boards were elected to do. Every witness testified that any decision to reopen schools should be based on local conditions,” Dodson said.

He added: “The order is unconstitutional to the extent it arbitrarily disregards safety, denies local school boards decision making with respect to reopening brick and mortar schools, and conditions funding on an approved reopening plan with a start date in August.”

The Florida Education Association (FEA) filed the lawsuit against Corcoran and Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis on July 20. The FEA, which represents more than 140,000 teachers, was joined in the lawsuit by its national affiliates the National Education Association and American Federation of Teachers (AFT), which each represent millions of teachers.

Florida Democrat says she voted AGAINST child sex doll ban by MISTAKE

When Florida’s legislature voted to ban child sex dolls, one Democrat puzzlingly went back and changed her vote to oppose the ban. However, now she says her vote against banning the perverted playthings was cast in error.

Florida’s State House voted in 2019 to make selling or possessing “an obscene child-like sex doll” a third-degree felony. The measure passed Florida’s House and Senate unanimously and was signed into law by Governor Ron DeSantis shortly afterwards, but in the meantime, Democrat Rep. Margaret Good logged into a legislature portal and switched her vote from a “yes” to a “no.”

Good is something of a criminal justice reformer, and local media reported on Monday that before changing her vote, she cast a separate vote to increase the threshold for what constitutes a felony offense in the Sunshine State. However, even the most dyed-in-the-wool reformists would balk at supporting sex dolls, and Good insists the vote was a mistake.

“The vote change was made in error,” she told Florida Politics, explaining that she intended to switch her vote on another education bill instead.

Regardless of how it was cast, Good’s vote didn’t stop the ban coming into force last October. What it did do, however, is draw some unwelcome attention to her current campaign. Good hopes in November to unseat Republican incumbent Vern Buchanan and take his seat in Washington. The GOP has already seized on the story, with a party press officer quipping that the news is “Not great for @GoodforFlorida. Maybe it’s time she comes out of hiding and denounces child sex dolls? Just a thought.”

Turkey will do what is necessary if Greece escalates Mediterranean conflict, foreign minister warns

Mevlut Cavusoglu said that his country is open to dialogue, but not with Greece's pre-conditions amid the ongoing sea shelf oil drilling dispute.

Turkey's top diplomat discussed the ongoing tensions Tuesday in Ankara during a joint press conference with his German counterpart Heiko Maas. The Turkish representative reiterated that his side would have no hesitation if a conflict with Greece occurs.

In Ankara Maas represented Germany’s position and largely the European Union’s, saying that the ongoing diplomatic crisis put Turkey’s relationship with the EU at a crossroads.

Before his visit to the talks the minister said that “the current situation in the eastern Mediterranean is equivalent to playing with fire.” “Every little spark can lead to catastrophe,” he added.

Maas said that visible steps toward de-escalation are required, and that both Germany and Turkey must open up to dialogue. He also noted that he believed a compromise is within reach, however complicated it may be.

Turkey and Greece have both been NATO allies for decades, despite problems in diplomatic relations. The two nations have clashed over the discovery of oil and gas deposits in a disputed sea region off the shore of the island of Crete back in July.The latest standoff began when Ankara unilaterally deployed a research vessel to the potential drilling site. The tensions heightened on Monday when Turkey announced it will extend the ship's stay until August 27.

Flynn Oral Argument Transcript Released – Decision Imminent Due to Justice Griffith Retiring…

The transcript of the oral arguments from the August 11th DC Circuit Appeals court has been released. [pdf available here]. The DC Circuit held a full panel hearing to decide the outcome of the unopposed DOJ & defense motion to drop the case against Michael Flynn.

You will remember Judge Sullivan injected himself into the case by approving an amicus to argue against dismissal; this led to a request by the Flynn defense for a writ of mandamus overriding Judge Sullivan. Initially a three judge panel agreed with the writ giving Sullivan 30 days to dispose of the case; however, Sullivan appealed to the full panel (en banc). The first appellate court ruling was stayed, and the full panel heard oral arguments earlier this month. That transcript is below.

The panel of appellate judges included Judge Srinivasan, Judge Henderson, Judge Rogers, Judge Tatel, Judge Garland, Judge Griffith, Judge Millett, Judge Pillard, Judge Wilkins and Judge Rao. However, with Judge Griffith retiring at the end of this month, it is likely the ruling will be announced very soon; could be this week.

Regardless of what decision is reached, the announcement should be anticipated prior to Judge Griffith being replaced by recently confirmed Trump nominee Judge Justin Walker. That means we could see a decision announced this Friday, or by next Friday at the latest.

The judges could remove Judge Sullivan and reassign the case. In that event it’s likely the next judge would simply accept the motion to dismiss. However, the DC circuit could also deliver a ruling that allows Sullivan to retain the final disposition with strong guidance on any subsequent activity.

Given the extra-judicial path of this case essentially anything is possible. That said, the DC appeals court likely doesn’t want this decision being reviewed any further (SCOTUS). It would make sense for the DC panel to seek a face-saving exit for Sullivan that doesn’t put Flynn’s defense in a position to appeal to Supreme Court Justice Roberts for intervention

Russian National Arrested For Conspiracy To Introduce Malware Into A Nevada Company’s Computer Network

RENO, Nev. — A Russian national made his initial appearance in federal court yesterday for his role in a conspiracy to recruit an employee of a company to introduce malicious software into the company’s computer network, extract data from the network, and extort ransom money from the company, announced U.S. Attorney Nicholas A. Trutanich of the District of Nevada and Special Agent in Charge Aaron C. Rouse of the FBI.

“As Nevada’s economy diversifies and evolves into a center for technological innovation, our office will continue to prioritize protecting trade secrets and other confidential information belonging to U.S. businesses,” said U.S. Attorney Trutanich. “Working with our law enforcement partners, we are committed to holding accountable anyone who plots to use malicious cyber tactics to harm American consumers and companies.”

“In this matter, the FBI was once again able to intervene before any damage could occur,” said Special Agent in Charge Rouse. “We will continue to aggressively pursue any person or entity that attempts to inflict damage to American business or enterprise, no matter who or where.”

Egor Igorevich Kriuchkov, 27, a citizen of Russia, was charged in a complaint with one count of conspiracy to intentionally cause damage to a protected computer. He was arrested on August 22, 2020, in Los Angeles and had his initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Alexander F. MacKinnon in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, who ordered Kriuchkov detained pending trial.

According to the complaint and statements made in court, from about July 15, 2020 to about August 22, 2020, Kriuchkov conspired with associates to recruit an employee of a company to introduce malware — i.e., malicious software programs designed to damage or do other unwanted actions on a computer system — into the company’s computer network. The malware would supposedly provide Kriuchkov and his co-conspirators with access to the company’s system. After the malware was introduced, Kriuchkov and his co-conspirators would extract data from the network and then threaten to make the information public, unless the company paid their ransom demand.

Kriuchkov entered the United States using his Russian passport and a tourist visa. He contacted and met with the employee numerous times to discuss the conspiracy. Kriuchkov promised to pay the employee $1 million dollars after the malware was introduced. In furtherance of the conspiracy, Kriuchkov provided the employee with a burner phone, and instructed him to leave the burner phone in airplane mode until after the money was transferred.

After being contacted by the FBI, Kriuchkov drove overnight from Reno to Los Angeles. Kriuchkov asked an acquaintance to purchase an airline ticket for him in an attempt to fly out of the country.

Kriuchkov faces a statutory maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Chris Hedges: How Corporate Tyranny Works

Those, like environmental lawyer Steven Donziger, who fight the corporate control of our society on behalf of the vulnerable find the institutions of power unite to crucify them.

The persecution of the attorney Steven Donziger is a grim illustration of what happens when we confront the real centers of power, masked and unacknowledged by the divisive cant from the Trump White House or the sentimental drivel of the Democratic Party. Those, like Donziger, who name and fight the corporate control of our society on behalf of the vulnerable see the judiciary, the press and the institutions of government unite to crucify them.

“It’s been a long battle, 27 years,” Donziger said when I reached him by phone in his apartment in Manhattan.

Donziger, who has been fighting polluting American oil companies for nearly three decades on behalf of indigenous communities and peasant farmers in Ecuador, has been under house arrest in Manhattan for a year. He will go to trial in federal court in New York on Sept. 9 on contempt of court charges, which could see him jailed for six months. Ever since he won a multibillion-dollar judgment in 2011 against the oil giant Chevron, the multinational has come after him personally through litigation that threatens to destroy him economically, professionally and personally.

“Our L-T [long-term] strategy is to demonize Donziger,” Chevron wrote in an internal memo in 2009, as reviewed by Courthouse News.

“It started when Texaco went into Ecuador in the Amazon in the 1960s and cut a sweetheart deal with the military government then ruling Ecuador,” Donziger told me. “Over the next 25 years, Texaco was the exclusive operator of a very large area of the Amazon that had several oil fields within this area, 1500 square miles. They drilled hundreds of wells. They created thousands of open-air, unlined toxic waste pits where they dumped the heavy metals and toxins that came up from the ground when they drilled. They ran pipes from the pits into rivers and streams that local people relied on for their drinking water, their fishing and their sustenance. They poisoned this pristine ecosystem, in which lived five indigenous peoples, as well as a lot of other nonindigenous rural communities. There was a mass industrial poisoning.”

“By the time I went down there in the early 1990s, many people had died, cancer rates were skyrocketing according to several independent health evaluations, people were really hurting. There was zero regard for the lives of the local people by Texaco. I was a very young lawyer back in 1993 when I first went to Ecuador. It was like looking at an apocalyptic scene. There was oil on the roads. People were living in abject poverty. They had no shoes. They would get oil on their feet when they walked along the roads. The oil pollution had permeated every aspect of daily life. It was in the food supply. It was in the water supply. It was in the air. The average person there would get exposed multiple times a day to very harmful, cancer-causing toxins, with foreseeable results.”

‘Like a Goat Tethered to a Stake’

John Keker, one of Donziger’s lawyers on that case, said he was up against 160 lawyers for Chevron and during the trial he felt “like a goat tethered to a stake.” He called the court proceedings under Kaplan “a Dickensian farce” and a “show trial.” In the end, Kaplan ruled that the judgment in the Ecuadorean court against Chevron was the result of fraud.

He also ordered Donziger to turn over decades of all client communication to Chevron, in effect eradicating attorney-client privilege, a backbone of the Anglo-American legal system with roots dating to ancient Rome. Donziger appealed what was, according to legal experts following the case, an unprecedented and illegal order. While Donziger’s appeal was pending, Kaplan charged him with criminal contempt for this principled stance, as well as his refusal to turn over his passport, his personal electronics and to refrain from seeking the collection of the original award against Chevron.

When his criminal contempt charges against the environmental lawyer were ignored by the U.S. attorney’s office for over five years, Judge Kaplan, using an exceedingly rare judicial maneuver, appointed the private law firm of Seward & Kissel, to act in the name of the government to prosecute Donziger. Neither the judge nor the law firm disclosed that Chevron has been a client of Seward & Kissel.

Celebs Attending VMAs Exempt From NY Quarantine

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio will exempt celebrities attending the Video Music Awards from out of state from his own COVID-19 quarantine orders, city officials confirmed to the New York Post this week.

The event will take place on Sunday at several outdoor venues “with limited or no audience” and will feature performances from prominent singers Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus, and others.

“The Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment and Citywide Events is working in close coordination with the production to ensure guidelines are being followed,” a City Hall spokesperson said, according to the New York Post.

Further, the spokesperson added that NYPD would be conducting “compliance checks during the production.”

Celebrities, however, aren’t included in the group required to quarantine upon arrival, according to the Post.

On June 25, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo ordered out of state travelers entering New York to quarantine for 14-days. There are currently 31 states on the list that either have a “seven day rolling average, of positive tests in excess of 10%, or number of positive cases exceeding 10 per 100,000 residents,” according to the New York Health Department.

The Australian Soviet: PM Morrison Closes Borders, Imposes New Authoritarian Measures

Earlier this month the world witnessed a number of disturbing scenes coming from Down Under. After announcing what was a marginal amount of alleged COVID ‘cases’ in the Victoria province in Australia, the government proceeded to institute one of the most draconian lockdowns ever seen. As a result, the country’s economy has crashed even further, forcing hundreds of thousands on welfare. It soon became clear thatnAustralia was going to be the ground zero test bed for the globalists’ ‘New Normal’ agenda.

Because of a relative handful of cases in provinces like Victoria and New South Wales, the country’s leadership decided to impose one of the worst lockdowns in the world. For its law abiding citizens, the prospects of a quarantine-free travel and freedom of movement has become a thing of the past.

How long the current impasse will last is anyone’s guess. For millions of Australians, a dark reality is now beginning to set in: if you own a passport, you probably won’t be able to use it anytime this year, and possibly well into next year too.

Last week we learned that Prime Minister Scott Morrison told his subjects that it is “unlikely” that Australia’s borders will be closed until Christmas 2020, and more likely beyond that into spring of 2021.

“I would welcome if by Christmas it were possible, but I think it’s unlikely that we [will be] able to move back to a restriction-free society [by then],” said the PM. “I doubt that is going to happen, and I doubt the medical situation will enable it.”

The announcement means that the countries electorate are effectively prisoners of the state – a situation not unlike the heavy hand of state control experienced in the Soviet Union, where party commisars forbid its citizens from freely travelling in and out of the country, with heavily surveilled and restricted movement between provinces, along with state restrictions on freedom of assembly in public – all of which are now set features under the current regime in Australia.

When Jody learnt that her grandmother was terminally ill, her first thought was to fly back to the UK. But as a permanent Australian resident she was banned from leaving the country owing to coronavirus travel restrictions and her request for an exemption on compassionate grounds was turned down.

“My grandmother has been such an instrumental part of my life, I just want the chance to say goodbye and for my children to say goodbye,” said the British-born mother of two, who did not want her full name disclosed as she appeals against the decision.
