The round was designed so that more ammo could be carried. The military doesn't design ammo so that it will wound. It does however design ammo to pierce a helmet at 300 yds. Most M16 ammo over the years has been designed to defeat an enemies helmet at a certain distance. Piercing helmets and wounding are two different things. I will however say that the bullet that is designed to defeat armor may not expand as much as a soft point or hollow point. It may make a smaller wound and this is probably were the myth of the army inventing "Wounding ammo" comes from. >>10423061
