I just wanted to make note of this for anyone who might be interested.

A lot of people are pointing out that the IP address of 8kun, 8chan, qmap.pub, and others are all the same, and are using this to try to claim that they are all owned and operated by Jim Watkins. I have no idea if that claim is true, but using the IP address as evidence is completely false.

That is the IP address of a DDOS protection service that Jim Watkins runs. It has to use that IP for the protection to work. The site then forwards the requests to the real server based on the domain name. So there is no way the IP address can be used to prove it. If you use Jim’s service, your site will use a similar IP address if not the same.

As we just discovered when the site went down, it is actually hosted on Heroku, which is a quick development service which takes care of a lot of grunt work. That means once the request goes through the DDOS IP address it is then routed to Heroku servers based on the domain name of the request. So that also proves that the IP address means absolutely nothing, because if it wasn’t going through the DDOS IP it would be an IP address owned by Heroku.

So don’t try to use that as evidence, because it isn’t true.
