I happen to know that all religions are used by those pose as spiritual leaders and lead their followers into darkness. Groups that live in darkness end up doing dark things, including things like conspiracy and treason, using religious freedom as cover for their bad behavior. Some groups seem more vulnerable to this kind of behavior because they have the idea that in group preference is virtuous, even to the point lying and cheating against those in the group is admirable. So if you can discern when a group has issues with being part of a larger society because of its hatred for the larger society, you will never be able to confront the issues that confront our experiment with self rule. Patriotism does not have a race or religion, but the enemies of our civil society experiment may. Be genital as doves and wise as serpents does not suggest being naive about how the psychology of group actions is a good thing.
There is a reason the constitution talks about treason and conspiracy and they are not less relevant because a happen under the freedom of religion or all men being created equal.
