> Leaving any job unfinished when you can see what a difference finishing would make is agonizing.
This is one of the consequences of having NOT been successfully ‘schooled’. Congratulations Anon, you are in elite company.
(Paraphrasing John Taylor Gatto from memory)
One of the purposes of the 40min school period is to train kids to drop what they are doing and move on to the next thing when told. It teaches apathy very effectively.
The claim that 40mins is as long as children can focus attention is fake. Also, it assumes that the ability to concentrate does not change with age. If it were valid, there would be no such thing as ‘double periods’. Also, you only have to observe how long kids can stay focussed on something that they are interested it to see that the claim is fake.
One of the purposes of school is to PREVENT kids from learning ‘too much’, and the 40min period is one of the ways that is achieved.
Kids soon learn from the constant interruption that ‘nothing is worth finishing’. It’s only a short step to think that ‘if nothing is worth finishing, then nothing is worth starting’ - an apathetic ‘dumbed down’ population is a consequence.
