Point Beach Nuclear Plant plans siren maintenance

Point Beach Nuclear Plant contractors are scheduled to perform maintenance starting Monday (Aug. 31) on the sirens within the 10 miles of the plant that are in Manitowoc and Kewaunee counties. The work is expected to continue through Sept. 11, except for Labor Day, Sept. 7.

During siren maintenance, residents may hear actual siren activations for approximately one to three minutes, and notice activity going on and around the siren sites. At the completion of all the sirens receiving maintenance a three-minute activation will be done on all the sirens in the 10-mile Emergency Planning Zone located in Manitowoc and Kewaunee Counties.

Performance of this routine maintenance helps to ensure that sirens in the county work well, should they need to be activated.

During the duration of the testing, if individuals have concerns and are unsure whether or not the activities may be related to the maintenance, call 920-845-9701 or 920-388-3100 for verification.

In the event of an actual emergency, dial 9-1-1.
