Honestly, anon, if the city would jail me for defending myself, my first priority would not be to engage the mob.
If the police allow the mob to endanger the public and arrest said public for defending itself, then I would think it a much wiser solution to take the time to introduce the prosecuting attorney and local judges to the mob. Or to the rule of the jungle, otherwise.
Don't create anarchy if you're not prepared to live by the rule of the jungle. I can also guarantee that if you start putting an end to the people in the legal and legislative system who protect these rioters, you will see an end to the riots.
Someone contracts for people like "riot kitchen" to show up. Someone coordinates. Someone shelters. These areas hit by this stuff are not completely innocent districts to which bad guys flock - they are corrupt holes where someone thinks they can shelter the riots.
