Tyler Perry, Georgia First Lady Marty Kemp Team up to Bring Awareness to Human Trafficking

Multimedia mogul and actor Tyler Perry teamed up with Georgia’s first lady Marty Kemp in a video to bring awareness to and stop human trafficking.

“Grateful to [Tyler Perry] for his leadership to support survivors and raise awareness about human trafficking!” tweeted Georgia First Lady Marty Kemp on Thursday. Below her tweet was a video Perry had recorded, urging viewers to look for warning signs of the crime of sex trafficking.

“Human trafficking is a crime often hidden in plain sight,” said Perry in the video. “We like to think that it only happens in other places, and only affects other people. but sadly, it’s happening right here in our backyard in Georgia, in small towns and big cities.”

Watch below:

“Thousands of victims are trapped and they need our help,” Perry continued. “Unfortunately, many are being trafficked by the very people they trust the most like their friends and family.”

Tyler Perry, who owns a production studio in Atlanta, Georgia, went on to urge viewers to participate in Kemp’s human trafficking awareness training to learn how to spot the warning signs of sex trafficking.

“It is critically important to know the warning signs of sex trafficking, and how to report suspicious activity. It can save someone’s life,” Perry said. “To learn more, you can take Georgia First Lady Marty Kemp’s human trafficking awareness training. And if you or someone you know needs help, call the national human trafficking hotline at 1-888-373-7888.”

“Working together, we can be the force of good that ends human trafficking once and for all,” concluded Perry.

First Lady Kemp has created the Georgians for Refuge, Action, Compassion, and Education Commission (GRACE) to combat the threat of human trafficking in the State of Georgia.

“We are deeply grateful to Tyler Perry for his dedicated work and leadership to support survivors and raise awareness about human trafficking,” said Kemp, according to a report by WSB Atlanta.

“With his partnership, more Georgians will be equipped with the knowledge to identify potential instances of trafficking — but most importantly, they will be equipped with the ability to save lives,” she added.

The report added that child sex trafficking is a big problem in the metro area, and that the state has been considered a hub for the crime since 2005. In 2018, theNational Human Trafficking Hotline ranked Georgia fourth among U.S. states

Retiring Texas GOP Congressman Won’t Say if He’ll Vote for Trump

I guess his retirement was not voluntary. KEK

A retiring Republican congressman from Texas is unsure whether he will vote for President Trump in the November election.

Rep. Mac Thornberry, who currently represents the 13th district – which covers Amarillo, Wichata Falls, and the panhandle – told KFDX he would not commit to voting for the President’s re-election.

“I hear it all the time. President Trump is very popular in our area, but a lot of folks are uncomfortable with some of the tweets and the way he talks and so forth. And my suspicion is that a lot of those Republicans have similar concerns,” Thornberry said.

“Thornberry did not say whether he plans to vote for President Trump in November, but he said he has voted for Democrats in the past though, saying he, like many voters, look for the best person for the job,” the news station reported.

Thornberry attempted to pick his successor and endorsed Josh Winegarner in the July primary.

Winegarner was defeated by former White House Physician Dr. Ronny Jackson, a staunch Trump supporter, 56 percent to 44 percent.

Texas-13 is a strong Republican district. Thornberry won re-election in 2018 with 81.5 percent of the vote, according to Ballotpedia.

Jackson will face Democrat opponent Gus Trujillo in November.

Amazon Launches ‘Halo’ Wellness Tracker that Can Sense Your Moods

God Almighty how can people even think this is not creepy and totally unacceptable

E-commerce giant Amazon has announced the launch of Amazon Halo, a health and wellness tracker that the company claims can track its users’ emotions by listening to the tone of their voice.

The Wall Street Journal reports that e-commerce giant Amazon has announced its latest product, Amazon Halo, a health and wellness tracker which Amazon claims can analyze a user’s voice to track their emotions. The wristband can also track body-fat percentage, heart rate, and it’s users’ activity and sleep.

The product marks Amazon’s first foray into the health and wellness industry and will be available for early order in the United States now. Amazon claims that it can monitor users’ social and emotional well-being under the “Tone” feature by analyzing a user’s voice, offering insights into their “energy and positivity.”

The Halo bands companion app will also suggest workouts an healthy habits for users, supported by content from both Amazon, 8fit, Harvard Health Publishing, Mayo Clinic, and other groups. Amazon claims that the HaloBand’s battery lasts up to seven days and can be fully charged in under 90 minutes.

Amazon is offering the Halo Band and six months of Halo membership for an early access price of $64.99, before increasing it to its regular retail price of $99.99. The membership renews for $3.99 a month after the first six months.

Amazon has previously faced scrutiny over it’s other user-focused devices such as its smart home assistant Amazon Alexa. In January, the MIT Technology Review reported that Amazon Alexa home assistant devices are listening in on people’s conversations, a theory that has been around for some time but has never been confirmed.

The MIT Technology Review reports:

Beyond all the things I’ve clearly asked Alexa to do, in the past several months it has also tuned in, frequently several times a day, for no obvious reason. It’s heard me complain to my dad about something work-related, chide my toddler about eating dinner, and talk to my husband—the kinds of normal, everyday things you say at home when you think no one else is listening.

And that’s precisely why it’s terrifying: this sort of mundane chitchat is my mundane chitchat. I invited Alexa into our living room to make it easier to listen to Pandora and occasionally check the weather, not to keep a log of intimate family details or record my kid saying “Mommy, we going car” and forward it to Amazon’s cloud storage.

The MIT Technology Review notes that constant recording is one of the unfortunate downsides of home assistants that constantly listen for wake words such as “Alexa!” or “Hey, Siri!”

Through 2019, Amazon faced continual bad news about its Alexa-powered devices on the subject of user privacy and security. Reports were published showing that Amazon employees and contractors located in India, Costa Rica, and Romania had ready access to users’ recordings and spent nine hours a day listening to the snippets.
