The video is titled “Melissa video.” It is not clear if Jaselskis’ parents posted the video or if it was posted by Ryan Jaselskis. The YouTube channel features several videos that appear to have been created by Ryan’s mother, but also many videos about Ryan’s acting and modeling career.

Ryan Jaselski’s family lives in South Carolina. He has also lived in North Carolina, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. His parents’ YouTube channel also includes several videos related to a Christian church in South Carolina, along with a weight loss program that his mother is involved in.

Jaselskis’s attorneys with the federal public defender’s office drew contrasts with Welch, saying their client wasn’t drawn to Comet Ping Pong with a mission but rather was “suffering from a diagnosed mental illness.”

This is disturbing and should concern every citizen of this country. A lot of right wing types (Sean Hannity, Fox News, Breitbart, and the army of Kooks on the internet and other outlets) have been peddling a lot of crackpot conspiracy theories and other nonsense. It only take one mentally unstable person to take this stuff seriously and do something dangerous. This should be exhibit A – along with the nut job living in his van in Florida who sent pipe bombs to CNN.

The biggest terrorism threat to this country isn't Al Qaeda or "radical Islam", it's this kind of stuff. It's also the lunatics running around with loaded assault rifles brandishing them at so-called rallies. It's the nut jobs at the alt right / neo-Nazi rallies. It's the people assaulting people at the MAGA rallies. And what's worse, you've got elected officials encouraging these dangerous situations.

We're well beyond warning that "someone might get hurt", we're into a body count situation Heather Heyer didn't have to die. We all should be very concerned that elected leaders are drumming up this stuff it's not very different from the kinds of behaviors that led to the genocide in Rwanda. I'm not sure how anyone can see that as a good thing or "Making America Great Again".

Ladies and gentlemen, in both cases herein lies the textbook examples of white privilege. What Jaselkis and Welch did would have been prosecuted as terrorism had the defendants been men of color, and if they had not been killed by the cops on the scene. A four-year sentence in both cases is a mockery of the justice system and an insult to the restaurant owners and the customers whose lives were endangered. In the words of Paul Mooney, “They have the complexion for the protection”. This is a travesty.
