For a degree I was pursuing I was required to take a media course through the teacher's college at the University I attended. That course was an eye-opener. Many or most of the students seemed to wear their identities "on their shirt sleeves" meaning that even for the day, they looked radical. I definitely felt I was seeing a cadre of people interested in getting access to forming minds.

Not only that but the class itself did not enforce standards. When a large number of students could not master an assignment ,the assignment was deferred and the students were not required to master the challenge, as I recall. College and graduate level science classes never coddled me like that.
