Phil Anon here. To add clarity to a one-sided article, ABS was critical of DU30 administration because it was a crony organization tied to the previous Aquino administration. From the beginning they had been splitting the frequencies on which they were allowed to operate, effectively offering more channels than they were paying for. They were years behind on taxes, and fraught with corruption from top to bottom. This kind of corruption is not uncommon in Philippines, but perhaps because they were hostile to Duterte, he wasn't having any of it.
Their license to operate was revoked last year, pending an independent review by senate committee. The findings of that review were nearly unanimous that ABS was guilty as charged. The decision was appealed based on Muh Covid, because hey we are providing an essential information service to poor filipinos during a pandemic. The govt. wasn't having any of their bullshit, and issued a timed order for shutdown, resulting in this week's final closure of the broadcast stations.
It would be like if CNN were started, owned, and run by the Democrats, breaking broadcast bandwidth rules, and 100% one sided in their reporting of Trump news. Oh wait....
