There were Jews who died from starvaton and disease from malnutrition. The US intentionally bombed the transportation routes for food and other supplies to the camps a few months before the end of the war to set up the storyline. There were certainly Jews who were sent to the camps to die because they did not go along with Zionist politics. The camps were set up to protect Jews and to frighten them into moving to Israel because people weren't moving there as quickly as had been expected.
