Hurricane Relief from previous bread:
This definitely would be an interesting dig. After Sandy in 2012, I didn't see any distribution of all the money supposedly raised. FEMA pulled into our driveway, never rang the bell, despite a 50 foot Oak sitting on the house. Others had homes washed away, and had to rely on the kindness of family for YEARS. Nothing made sense. I will never donate to anything again. I will hand money directly to someone in need. Another friend had 5 feet of water in their home - insurance paid to the water line. ONLY additional help they received was from my family giving donations directly to them.
Also notable - was at a casino. A Red Cross truck at the back door. No events taking place, no blood drive. ????
Jerry Lewis MD telethon every year for decades - notable strides? Hmmm
Collecting for charities at the check out in stores: donate yourself via a website or with a check directly and get the tax deduction. I've suspected these stores collect your money and get the tax deduction for themselves, AND put up a poster about their "community outreach."
