Left was stopping the bleeding. Not saying that he couldn't have done what you say, only that he chose not to. By the time he got help with the bleeding, Kyle was gone. HOWEVER, we also hear a shot or two as Kyle is retreating and still facing the site of the attack, so it may be that the pistol DID come back into play, possibly in the hands of another.
