PORTLAND, Ore. — Oregon Governor Kate Brown has extended the declaration of a state of emergency regarding coronavirus for an additional 60 days.
The state of emergency order allows the Oregon Health Authority and the Office of Emergency Management more authority to respond to the crisis.
It also allows state agencies to waive rules or adopt temporary ones.
Governor Brown says Labor Day is another critical moment in the coronavirus crisis.
“Small social get-togethers like barbecues and family celebrations have fueled wider community outbreaks in counties across Oregon. This weekend, you have a choice. Please, stay local this Labor Day, and practice safe COVID-19 habits. Wear a face covering, watch your physical distance, and wash your hands,” Governor Brown wrote.
The state of emergency will be extended to November 3.
