I knew a Roshi who told me that a layman from the village had achieved enlightenment in his zendo. I asked him, then what happened next for him. Roshi said nothing, everything remained the same, he went about his regular life.

It's the same story in all religions, some believe Jesus went on to have a family and live a relatively normal life.
