Latimer's ONLY claim to fame was he filed a patent relating to an improvement to the PRODUCTION PROCESS for carbonized filaments . He did NOT invent the carbonized filament.

Edison invented the (vacuum based) light bulb and Edison later invented the carbonized filament.
