>>10537712, >>10537715 EXPLANATION why Sheriffs won't help out Portland

BAKER, NOTABLE

Thanks for the background explanation, anon, that makes a lot of sense, especially

>In Oregon the counties are self insured in a joint pool. Portland is nothing more than a huge lawsuit waiting to happen and counties cannot afford the liability.

Gov is trying to offload risk onto others. I don't blame Sheriff's one bit for not stepping into that trap.

>Second, counties do not want the long term disability claims of injured law enforcement. Cities are subject to insurance pools dominated by counties. If cities send police, they stand a chance of being kicked out of the pool for risk.

This is so disturbing…

>>10537845

>you only elect the head Sherriff

Yes, the public elects the Sheriff who head's the Sheriff's department and who hires Deputies. That's how it goes elsewhere.

I don't know any in OR so I can't can't judge them or what you are saying.

At least they refused to help the Gov in her ploy to bankrupt the counties to save Portland, that was prudent of them, and actually protects all other Oregonians. So that's good.

You might have missed how Counties and localities are pooled in insurance… that is critical background info and explains a LOT. It shows that their decision was sound and they are protecting the people of their counties this way.

Thank you so much for this! I'm going to make a copypasta for later, since it is clearly needed from time to time.

I'm going to add ONE thing:

5. For tweets, copypasta the text too, so the info gets into qresear.ch & wearthene.ws

Qresear.ch is a great resource, but it's 100% text.

Wearethene.ws provides clickable links, so include the article the tweet links to, with the relevant part of the article and a link to it.

Things do not happen isolation.

There are many factors that go into a decision.

Knowing some of those factors helps to explain why a decision is made, even if you disagree with the decision.

Ad hominems are not an actual argument.

We are both free to disagree, but your assumptions and assignation of motive are incorrect and also inconsequential.
