>keystone, castle rock, two if by sea

kinda goofy theory from posting anon (not me), but i’ll add this anyway

leon black was the ceo of vail resorts when they bought both keystone and Breckenridge resorts in the late 90s from ralcorp. fyi.

also, all the newer major buildings at keystone are connected underground by tunnels and parking garages.

a number of supreme court justices spent the summer months in keystone managed condos, around the lake in the 90s and early 2000s.

i’ll have to think about it more and see what other weirdness I can remember.

i worked there and had access to the prop mgmt systems and Peaks cards live data. i met leon.

US Marshalls would come into our offices and stomp around threatening all of us about ever talking about the Sumpremes (some) staying there for the summer months.

They were building River Run at the time, I watched them build it and walked through the tunnels connecting the complexes (mostly from underground parking lots).

We also use to laugh being able to ‘watch’ Al Gore and Tipper ski at Beaver Creek. We could watch their ski passes being scanned in real time.

The City of Vail - indistinguishable from the resort - has a massive presence of Mexican billionaires also. Texans like the Perot family too.

> Really interesting. Did you see or have any evidence of illegality or wrongdoing there?

Drug dealing was huge and the condo property owners (Vail Resorts manages nearly all condos and hotels) could be pretty sketchy with who really owned them. Always paid their bills on time.

never heard anything about human trafficking, if that’s your question. but i was a ski bum and mainly focused on making rent and getting drunk.

Leon talked all the time about how he saw Vail Resorts (keystone, breck, vail, beaver creek at the time) needed to compete with disny and vegas, not other resorts.

sounds creepier now than it did then.

john ramsey, jonbenet’s dad, used to rent out entire hotels at keystone for his company retreats.

leon worked hard trying to get the US olympic ski teams to train at arapaho basin, a contiguous resort to keystone that vail controlled but didnt own. it basically could have year round skiing with snowmaking because its elevation is so high.

i dont think he ever got them away from mt hood, but it was a goal.

drove through, looked like a level of poverty i like to avoid. wooded lots, houses and trailers leaning to the side. one mgr used to live up there “in her hippie days”. she was a practicing witch, alter in the bedroom, whole shebang.

also i dont think Q has ever been talking about keystone Co. would need more corroborating or supporting posts, and im not aware of any.

but interesting to consider.
